Forbes:

"Furthermore, these military vehicles require a substantial amount of maintenance, which the Taliban will likely not be able to provide even with foreign assistance. This maintenance of military vehicles requires technical expertise and access to specialized tools and spare parts."

Looks to me like they are able to improvise pretty well. So much for expert opinions.

You think because somebody can take apart and put back together a diesel engine that they can repair and maintain a helicopter?

Yes, because the US trained them for 10 years to do just that.

Doesn't matter! None of our supplies, not a single nut and bolt or bullet should have fallen into taliban hands!

After all the blood we shed, after all the slogans made, there is no excuse for the taliban being back in charge of anything 35 seconds after the US left.

What a complete failure.

A) I agree with Scott among.

B) The India the Taliban is too stupid or not plugged in enough to make the equipment work is both stupid and dangerously racist. The Iran insurgence learned very well how to make IEDs from Iran. Native tribes that had contact w Euros learned how to craft firearms quickly. The enemy can and always does learn and adapt.

The Army was afraid Winchester repeaters could not be maintained efficiently in the field. Well, the Sioux and Cheyenne did too well.

We never should have been there in the first place.

Here's an interesting article on the Taliban "Air Force".

I'm pretty sure we were training the Afghan Army, not the Taliban.

I'm pretty sure many were one in the same. My, my you are gullible and poorly informed. Got to stop watching CNN. I have many ex-military customers who served in-theatre. You didn't turn your back on any of the Afghani's.

Is there a link or reference that supports the contention that US forces trained Taliban members to fly or maintain helicopters? Not folks who joined after we left but while we were in-country conducting the training.

And, it looks like the Taliban flying this helicopter missed a few lessons....or maybe it was bad maintenance?

What got left behind was equipment in the hands of the Afghan military. Items in our possession were destroyed or made otherwise unuseable/inoperable from what I understand..

I have it firsthand from soldiers on-the-ground that we just left it in a hurry. Little if any deactivated. The Afghan Army melted right back into the Taliban. You would have to do catastrophic damage to render it to a state those cats couldn't fix.

A thermite grenade would take care of that issue in about 10 minutes…..
