Letting Putin know both sides can play the game was probably the intent. Putin has tried for various Ukrainian leaders, including Zelensky.

This may just be an attempt to get that behavior to back off.

Just my opinion but Ukraine has staged a number of wide ranging small attacks on russian infrastructure over the last days. Drones into Sevastopol, Attacks in other random areas behind the lines. They are building for an offensive and most likely trying to create some tension and confusion amongst the russians. More likely that drone ws intended to hit infrastucture and to say we can hit moscow.

Rubbish! In 1994 Russia signed a treaty to the effect that it would take no military action against Ukraine if Ukraine handed back the nukes which were based on its soil. Why do you think this was negotiated? Ukraine knew that Russia might have designs on its territory and so sought guarantees before handing over its nukes. It could have just hung onto them, the threat of what might happen would have kept Russia civil (Ukraine

Instead Russia promised to respect Ukraine sovereignty and Ukraine handed over its nukes. This is 1994.

Nothing about NATO, nothing about the EU, no conditions on what Ukraine must or must not do within its own boarders or in its relations with other states.

Russia has since violated every one of those conditions, its armed trained and supported separatists in Ukraine, its invaded and annexed Ukrainian territory, its waged economic war on Ukraine ... I know you think Ukraine should put out a red carpet for Putin and just let him take the whole country. Fortunately the west has woken up to its obligations under the treaty it (well the USA and the UK) signed up to and has given the Ukraine the means to defend itself.
