Mike MitchellI'm in favor of all blue state Democrats doing the same thing to republicans in those locations. Fuck it. Gerrymander everything so Dems can lock those states down. Heretofore, Dems have mostly been reluctant to employ those tactics but the gloves are off now. When things go sideways for the republicans (and it will), we'll see if they like their own gerrymandering medicine.

Mike MitchellAnd, speak of the devil....
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/0...s-redistricting.htmlDemocratic state legislators from Texas who fled their state Sunday to try to block the passage of gerrymandered U.S. House maps stood on Monday with Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York with a message: Any notion of fair political mapmaking has ended.
“If Republicans are willing to rewrite these rules to give themselves an advantage, then they’re leaving us no choice; we must do the same,” Ms. Hochul told reporters in Albany.

Yeah, newsom issued an eo the the same extent
Guess its fair game, why did they run?
LOOK at the congressional map of Houston for gerrymandering
Further, look at the Houston city counsel map.. kingwood and clear lake are only conjoined by a creek, and are like 45 miles apart, both annexed due to high tax rates, 1 counsel member

Do you need counseling about the difference between counsel and council?
Give me a home where the buffalo roam and I'll show you a house full of buffalo shit.

crbutlerThey have done districting with odd borders for decades here, and it has been the democrats in charge for the most part.
Near as I can tell, as long as it doesn’t go too far, the courts put a blind eye to it.
It has certainly been done to ensure certain demographics get to control a seat here. Apparently that was ok by the judges.
I’d prefer if they used actual legal boundaries (instead of splitting townships) and to heck with all this game playing.
The Dems play the game every bit as much in areas they control.
IMO, we should get rid of the redistricting, but it will never happen.

LHeym500This action by Texas is going to age like milk alright.
1) Dem controlled states like NY, NJ, and California are going to call special sessions to politically gerrymander out Rs.
2) This special session in Texas was suppose to address the flood crisis.

theback40Illinois did it last year? maybe two years ago.
Wanted to make the state 100% D ruled.
Not a Texas only thing.

Thank you for your opinion. Which Texas district are you in?

Please remind me when the fuck it was that democrats were in charge here? Before you started school. You can't redistrict in areas just because you control the district. It requires legislative action. As in Republican legislative action for the last 35 years or so.
The republicans are dying to cut up the few remaining Democrat strongholds so they can control the state forever. Pure naked unfair undemocratic power play.
They control the legislature. They control the governor's office. They control the Texas Supreme Court.
But, it's not enough for them. They don't want to have fair elections, they want to solidify their power and run the state forever by gerrymandering the voting districts to make that possible.
It's bullshit.

She was done being governor 30 years ago. Maybe not kids but a lot younger.
The republicans are trying to ram an agenda down the throats of the Democrats because the orange shit-gibbon has instructed Abbot to do so. Like Texas needs to pick up 5 seats in the legislature? Because the Texas republican majority is so threatened? It's laughable.
I rarely make predictions but I predict this nonsense is going to come back and bite the republicans on the ass.

jeffeossoMike,
It's congressional seats, not legislature

I think everybody knows which side of the aisle specializes in extremism, hatred, racism, lies and dishonesty. You can start at the top with your orange shit-gibbon.
Try again, Jim....

LHeym500Districts are redrawn every 10 after the Census.
This, is to account for population changes as shown by the Census.
Now, political gerrymandering is always a temptation when following a Census redistricting.
The point is Texas has been controlled in the state house by the GOP for over the last 10 years. This blatant attempt to gerrymander is unprecedented because we are still in the Cenus window.
