MJinesGovernor Asshat
Greg Abbott is such a worthless pandering prick it is nauseating to call him a fellow Texan. Biden, rightfully, orders the flags flown at half staff for 30 days to honor the passing of the longest living President. Trump, being the cry baby that he is, whines about the flags being a half staff on Inauguration Day because it will be a downer on his party. Abbott, seizing the opportunity to be a dickhead, orders flags on state facilities to be flown at full staff on the 20th. What a sniveling toady.

Seems absolutely appropriate that Texas is governed by a sniveling toady, their last Governor with balls was Ann Richards.

TomPI kind of expected that Trump would leave the flag at half-staff through his inauguration and then raise it in celebration. Maybe not...

Answer this one for me. Why did Abbott do this? I’ll give you a hint, starts with a “p”, rhymes with meandering and ends in “ing”. Guess it works, he snagged you.

And, aren’t you sniveling now with this thread?
Lastly, wanna bet whether or not that you are in the minority of Texans?

MJines. . . my guess is most Texans are asking themselves, doesn’t the Governor on the eve of a legislative session have better things to do than throw bones to MAGAts? If they are not asking themselves that, they should be. But there will always be the crowd that gets distracted by some shiny object tossed at them.

"most", heck, let's call it simple majority,... nah, mike, they aren't -- i'd wager dollars to donuts that "most" Texans couldn't care less --
say, we had a recent polling on just this matter -- hmm, how did that turn out?
oh, yeah
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...al_election_in_Texasas for eve of the legislative session -- you do know that GOVERNOR is the executive branch, and only has ceremonial roles for the majority of the legislative session, right? i mean, there's only three branches of Texas government

jeffeossoAnne,
one of my, surprising to no one, stubborn grand daughters is trying to work her way through college by working at McDs -- she won't eat there, even for the "free" comped meals --

MJinesYeah, I forget, the Governor never has a legislative agenda. And of course they don’t have legislative aides and liaisons. In fact, they never meet with legislators to pursue an agenda, pass a budget, etc. He just sits back wearing a ceremonial robe, holding a scepter and watching what is going down until a bill shows up for him to sign. You know, sometimes in your haste to either come across as intelligent or witty, you just end up embarrassing yourself . . . sweetie pie.

jeffeosso(Whistles) good job Mike. You won...
And back to reality, despite your, how did you say it "You know, sometimes in your haste to either come across as intelligent or witty, you just end up embarrassing yourself".. Abbott has little duties and can choose how to spend his time... you don't think he's "capable" of managing all the details himself, do you?
14 January 2025, 06:22
MJines. . . he must have all kinds of free time on his hands. After all his role in the legislative process is just ceremonial so I have been told. Hell he probably is not even aware there is a Speaker’s election coming up, or a budget to be approved for the next two years, etc. We might as well call him King Abbott. Good news is that he is laser focused on the matters that matter, like putting on an optics performance to get the MAGAts lathered up. Glad that works for you SugarBooger.

jeffeossoSugar booger? Okay, that's a new one
But, sure, ignore the loss and keep on posting, do go, boo
14 January 2025, 06:49
MJines. . . in the future, you might temper your desire to be argumentative with a bit more thought. Ready, fire, aim is rarely wise. Describing the governor’s role in the legislative process in Texas as CEREMONIAL just embarrasses you sweetie. As the old IBM slogan goes . . . THINK.

Baker458I don't know much about Abbott. But I sure think he was genius (along with De Santis) for bussing illegals around the country.
Prior to that, a lot of people far from the border had no idea how big the problem was becoming.

I agree. And said so at the time. Unfortunately he has an overwhelming propensity to pander at times. I think he caught that virus from Cruz. In Cruz’s case it is the only tool in his tool bag.

jeffeossoyeah, as lane said, i hadn't "heard it" until you brought it up --
let's see -- possible timeline
"sir, i don't think we should flags at half mast on the 20th"
"why"
"sends the wrong message about the new president"
"fine, write it up, let's look at it"
2 days later, a highly polished announcement comes to his desk, reviewed and approved by staff
"sir, would you like to make an announcement or just a press release"
"what's your advice?"
"a press release would be fine"
"do it"
because that's exactly how executives function with a good staff, total time involved.. idk, 10 minutes?
do remember, "sugarbooger" (isn't that some coke-land stuff) you started the name calling ...

crbutlerI do think it’s much ado about nothing.
Here in MN, where we actually went for Carter in 80, and voted for Harris I have had people all the sudden notice the flag at half staff and ask if we were going to put it all the way up… that someone forgot.
Most don’t even notice that it’s at half staff, and way fewer even realize why it’s there.
Is Abbott pandering? Probably. It’s also probably not something that will hurt him and does make his supporters feel better.
I do wonder if Trump is going to put an EO in that when he dies, the flag should be at half staff for a year…
In the end it really doesn’t affect much, but does show trump’s morality is challenged.
