US's first openly transgender state legislator arrested on child sex abuse charges

by JULIAN BARON | The National DeskFri, June 23rd 2023, 11:24 AM CDT

NASHAU, N.H. (TND) — Rep. Stacie Laughton, who served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2020 to 2022, was arrested Thursday on charges of distributing child sexual abuse images, according to local police.

Local outlet WMUR reports Laughton's arrest is connected to the case of Lindsay Groves, a Massachusetts preschool worker who allegedly took photos of children while they were in the bathroom.

"Groves allegedly used natural bathroom breaks for the children (routine diaper/pull-up changes prior to “naptime”) to take multiple photos of the prepubescent children in a private bathroom and then sent the photos to [an unnamed individual] via text message," the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts said in a release.

Laughton made headlines in 2020 for becoming the first openly transgender individual elected to a state legislature anywhere in the United States, according to Metro Weekly.

The latest charges against Laughton continue a series of legal controversies surrounding the former lawmaker. Laughton was arrested in 2015 after claiming responsibility for a bomb threat called in to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. The incident occurred shortly after Laughton was discharged from a Vermont hospital where Laughton was receiving treatment for bipolar disorder.

“I have had a mental illness my whole life, and I guess this was my worst break with it. I was untreated for a long time, and I didn't have medication,” Laughton told the New Hampshire Union Leader at the time.

Laughton was incarcerated as recently as last year on stalking charges, according to NH Journal.

A representative from the Nashua Police Department referred The National Desk (TND) to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which did not immediately return a phone call.

Laughton did not immediately return a request for comment from TND. This article will be updated if a response is received.

Our woke-apologist members will offer that this transgender thing is much-ado-about-nothing because, after all, they have never even met a transgender person…

But now with this case, plus the two transgender school shooters, the transgender teen who raped a girl in the high school bathroom, the trans Biden appointee/kleptomaniac, and the child trafficking that was reportedly run by a house full of transgender people?

Maybe we can start having real conversations?

Real conversations about what? How to discriminate against transgenders? No, seriously: about what?

Logic is absent from your post. Several trans people have committed crimes, therefore we should what? Hate them? Discriminate against them? Punish the innocent along with the guilty?

Applying your thinking to most school shootings, the rest of society should fear, hate, and discriminate against white males. Your logic disappears under that comparison, doesn't it?

Usually you do better.

If trans lived their lives without trying to convince others to join them, I have no problem with that.

It is the IN YOUR FACE stupidity that is making people mad!

Roland,

As a general rule, when you ask someone for a question it is considered impolite to put words into their mouth before they have a chance to answer.

First, it should be clear to anyone paying attention that some sick freaks are using the transgender thing as a means to commit crimes against women and children.

That there is no need to push this into schools.

That children suffering signs of gender confusion should have their parents and mental health professionals involved. We know that this decreases suicide rates.

Kid’s suffering from gender dysphoria should receive care and support.

Trans adults should be subjected to the same scrutiny as the rest of us. If you read the article in the original post it is pretty clear that this group of child abusers were able to hide in plain sight. Do you think the neighbors feared being labeled transphobic is they had inquired into the children’s well being?
