In the West we have COMMON SENSE shortage!

Is it EVER likely that the voters will forget party politics and start demanding REASONABLE government? clap

One party has zero common sense. One party does some stupid stuff but trends more toward common sense most of the time.

Party politics IS the battle between idiocy and common sense. This battle has to be won first before we can move on.

But you have hit the nail on the head…common sense has been erased from the less than 40 crowd in the USA.

One party elected a POTUS who fomented a riot and an assault on the Capital of the United States of America.

One party didn't.

Talk about lack of common sense.

GOPers ought to form a special committee to investigate common sense.

That would be fun to watch.

One can find examples of idiocy on both sides…it’s the general trend that matters.

Of course it's the same people who determine what is unreasonable!!! Roll Eyes

That's why GOPers need to form a select committee on this important issue. We need some definitive, reasonable, answers, which surely such a partisan committee could produce. Wink

It actually does make some sense I think. In a way it is an equaliser in that those with more to spend, will end up contributing more too the govt. Would love to see it modified to remove staple food items etc from it though.

Ok so I know this doesn't fly/would never be accepted. But Ive often thought we are almost at the stage where you should have to pass a test of understanding of politics and the responsibility of the decision before you are allowed to vote.

30 percent sales tax to the Feds and 9-10 percent to the State; no thanks. I keep what we have, and I pay 3 income taxes.

This idea has been around for decades. It would essentially be the US version of the VAT that’s common in Europe and elsewhere. It’s a good way to abolish the federal income tax but not at 30%. Ain’t gonna happen.

Im a real fan of simplifying things. Some of the tax rules are just stupidly complex. An example that infuriated me the other day. A guys daughter is working two part time minimum wage jobs to put herself though school. The second job gets an added 7.5% tax because its a second job. FFS, what a way to disincentives a proactive youth!

Im also curious about Universal basic income as a way to smooth out some equality, do away with unemployment benefits and encourage the unemployed into taking on employment, even if part time. On the face of it, it seems like a good idea.

Flat tax!

You make a dollar you pay a dime, you make a million you pay a hundred thousand!

Simple! Every one has skin in the game, not much need for an IRS, tax attorneys, CPAs.....save the economy billions! Get rid of unnecessary, made up jobs.

Congress wouldn't get to pay back donors with tax law or pick winners and losers....

Those that don't pay taxes wouldnt get to vote for those that do to pay more.....everyone would have skin in the game!

Crazy republican ideas?
https://www.heritage.org/taxes...emember-the-flat-tax
quote:
A few years later, in 1992, Jerry Brown finished a surprising second to Bill Clinton in the Democratic primary by running on a 13 percent flat tax. In the 1980s and ’90s, influential pro-growth Democratic thought leaders like Bill Bradley, Dick Gephardt, and John Breaux teamed with Republicans like Jack Kemp on tax policy.

Today, any Democrat would be tossed out of the party for such an act of treason. The next Democratic leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer of New York, has alerted Republicans that the 1986 tax reform consensus is gone. He wants to get rid of tax loopholes for the rich, not to pay for lower rates, but to raise money for more government spending.

So if Republicans are going to reinvent the tax code, they won’t get help from the party dominated by Elizabeth Warren class warriors. The GOP is going to have to win a resounding electoral mandate to do it.
