I reckon Matt Taibbi is the expert on that question.

Did Russia intervene in the 2016 election to hurt Clinton and help Trump, YES OR NO?

NEITHER. There was no consensus on this in the Intel Community, not even in John Brennan’s hand-picked team (he had to override two of his own analysts!). As I reported with @shellenberger and @galexybrane, some analysts believed Russia preferred Clinton, some Trump: racket.news/p/wmd-part-ii-…

Ya'll certainly have short memories.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, chaired by a REPUBLICAN, conducted extensive hearings and produced a report.

Russian Intelligence expended great effort to get Trump elected.

I doubt the Trumpies will read your link, Jeffive. So here's an interesting quote:

"The Committee report found that the Russian government had engaged in an "extensive campaign" to sabotage the election in favor of Donald Trump, which included assistance from some of Trump's own advisers.[7]

"Like the Mueller report that preceded it, the report does not find a criminal conspiracy between Russia and the Trump campaign, but it does go further than the Mueller report in detailing the many suspicious links between Trump associates and Russian officials and spies."

The report goes on to detail contacts between Trump's people like Paul Manafort and Russian agents. All footnoted, so one may check sources.

They are either pig-ignorant or intentionally lying, trying to re-write recent history. It's not like the Senate Intelligence Committee released their report quietly in the dead of night, this stuff is public knowledge.

Since Lane has told us so many times how smart he is I can only conclude he knows better and is lying to gaslight the dumber MAGAts.

I don't think Russia favors either side. Their intent is to sow suspicion and discord to stymie our political system. Keeping us at each other's throats takes attention off them.

Matt Taibbi is a reputable journalist. Russia is an area of interest for him. Much has been uncovered since that^^^report. Read it or don’t but it is likely the most accurate accounting of what went on in 2016 for those who care. It generally takes about a decade for the truth to come out.

Hopefully another like him will report on the origins of SARS CoV-2.

Yup. They favor dissent and chaos among the citizens, the more the merrier.

In 2016 one candidate had consistently opposed everything Putin did or tried to do since he took over the Presidency of Russia, the other was, as his son told us, "getting all the money we need from Russia", was negotiating a hotel deal in Moscow and had Russian agents working for his campaign, then spent his entire Presidency weakening Putin's main obstacle to expanding his power, NATO, and coddling the bastard at every turn.

How quickly folks forget our humiliation at Helsinki when Trump came out of their private meeting all but wearing a ball gag.

To claim Russia had no preference and just wanted to be disruptive is assinine.
