It's a year since Russia invaded Ukraine. Putin is bogged down and on the back foot.

Protesters have marked the anniversary by painting a huge Ukranian flag in the road outside Russia's London Embassy.

We might have to wait 20 years to see the actual results!

Cowardly withdrawal from all the places they occupy now, leaving billions of their military equipment behind.

By then they might start catching up with America!

The world leaders in invading and destroying other countries! clap

Yes, we have intervened militarily quite a bit.

Usually at the request of someone.

The UAE fights when they see their interests involved. No difference.

Yes, our politicians have hubris that they think we can fix other people’s problems for them. It doesn’t really work that way.

OTOH, if we had not been in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Syria don’t you think that Iran would have its Revolutionary Guard messing around in your nation, probably assassinating your relatives?

We do some bad with our continual playing world’s policeman.

But do you think that if their was a power vacuum by us isolating ourselves that China or the USSR would be more benevolent?

Nature abhors a vacuum, someone else would be doing it if we were not.

I don’t disagree we should be a bit less activist, and certainly we should be much more limited in our goals with use of force.

Think on it… if it wasn’t for the west, your Tanzanian hunting would not exist… the country would be controlled by the combloc still and be one big open pit mine.

Spot on. All middle east countries are as far as military self defense dependent on other major players in the world stage just like Ukraine. They can handle very small stuff on their own, but anything major they would need help from one of the majors. This would very much include UAE needing help if something big happened. America has not always made the right decisions but like CR says who would you rather have on your side? America does not have the ambitions to control the world like China or to gain more teritory like Russia. So with those choices take your pick who you want to go to bed with.

The US still has quite a way to go to catch up with the UK.

"Of the current 200 nations in the world, the British have invaded all but 22 of them. The lucky 22 include Sweden, Luxembourg, Mongolia, Bolivia, and Belarus."

Isn’t Belarus part of the old USSR (or imperial Russia, if you prefer) which both the US and UK sent troops in to during the interwar period?

Didn’t UK troops invade/fight in Luxembourg during WWII when liberating it from Germany?

Not sure how accurate that is depending on one’s definitions of “invade”…
