First off I'm a GDI and not a leftie. Please make a note of it.

What did the Biden's provide that was of value in exchange for these millions?

You do understand that trump can't accept the plane without Congressional approval. So they just want to give him a $400 million plane because they like him and they don't know what else to do with it. So what do you suppose that they want from crooked don in return? You aren't curious about that?

I look forward to Jim's responses to these questions. Which will be nonsensical unless I miss my bet.

Why would the AF turn it over to his presidential library? What precedence is there for such an act? I thought he was allowed so much in funding to establish and maintain one. If they turn it over it should be rendered inoperable. I doubt that the AF would spend any serious money to bring it up to "code" so it will sit and get flown once in awhile, but that's about it. Fucking grift and corruption at its finest.

Airforce 1 is there to get the POTUS from A to B in safety, and I assume to do so whilst maintaining his ability to act as president whilst traveling.

Why is a third one needed? Or what will this new one do that the current twodon’t?

Funny, I thought libraries were for books and other writings, not for keeping and maintaining aircraft.

A few of practical considerations:

AF1, in the Boeing version, is 32 years old. Retirement thereof may be wise.
Trump has approximately 3.5 years remaining as POTUS.
The airframe will take approximately 2 years to build and a year to modify and equip. Trump might never fly in it but his successor would.
The proposed gift is not to Trump but to the U.S. government. No one but TDS sufferers have said any different.

Is it a wise idea for the government to accept Qatar's largess? With American’s burgeoning friendship with Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Syria and the gradual isolation of Iran… that’s a better question, so is accepting it good for Gulf relationships?
What is the psyche of the Emir if his gift is rejected? I think he’ll be disappointed but will get over it.

Allowing the huge military presence in the Gulf is better than a plane. I’d suggest we stick to that.

His successor will NEVER fly in it as it would be turned over to trump's presidential library. Why should the government accept and spend billions on something that they will never use? It's not a direct gift to trump now, but the plans that they have for it pretty much make it a personal gift.

Establishing a military presence in Qatar or wherever should be done because it's the smart thing to do not because some joker gave us a fucking airplane?

BTW how can it be that Boeing is THAT far behind in delivering the 2 new planes that were ordered?

ETA The billions spent on a "gift" would be better spent on decommissioning the current jets once the new ones arrive.

Internet says Qatar has been wanting to get rid of it for awhile now, in favor of smaller planes with more available destinations. Like many airlines. I dunno.

When Trump was first ensconced in the White House, he pronounced it a "dump".
I think I remember him wanting renovations. Same for AF1?

He's been in it before, maybe familiarity does breed contempt.
Or maybe he sees it as sloppy seconds, wants it fresh.

All of the talk is that it will be turned over to his library. If Congress accepts the deal for one thing. Any work to the plane most likely would neer get done. They aren't going to spend billions on this one and shitcan what they've got into the 2 being built by Boeing. But then you're dealing with the Government.

FWIW I'm a registered Republican, but it should be obvious that I can't stand trump or any of the sleazy slimeballs that he's surrounded himsef with. I've never voted for a significant Democrat, but that could hange in the future.
