My brother works for the Department of the Interior in Alaska, and says his office is in chaos.

First, they all got letters saying that remote work was terminated; everyone has to come into the office to work. Fine, but what about the folks living in remote parts of the state? Some of the employees live in the Lower 48. Some were hired on the condition they could work remotely. Some jobs require people to work remotely.

Then my brother, supervisors, and co-workers all got letters threatening termination if they didn't take a severance package. I almost asked my brother if he'd reconsidered his Trump vote yet.

Only idiots would manage the federal government like this. Only morons would elect them.

My understanding is that folks who were hired as remote workers are grandfathered in. Only the folks who were supposed to report to an office and aren't/weren't/won't report are at risk. If your brother and his pals can report to work, their jobs should be OK. If not, I guess they need to take the package.

What fed employees get away with is beyond me as nowhere else in private sector that exists

That understanding is different from what my brother told me. Could be that different departments are sending different letters.

The federal government has become the cluster it is because of the idiot Democrats that morons elected recently. There will be some pain in rectifying the situation. But, voting Democrat is a dumb play and always has been.

He can retire early only because of other assets and sources of income. For one thing, he traps fur in winter, and sees this as a chance to expand his line.

But that you would say,no wait.. I thought about it for a bit... you meant to sayFOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES.. the best...the brightest.. the most competent....

While one often sees private to public sector job changes, the reverse is fleeting rare...
