LDO-
At least he will show up for work.
Austin should have been removed from office or at least publicly punished. Pretty sad the woke Dems just let Austin slide.

Military experience and well educated.

I'd argue he's far more impressive than some kooky 0biden cabinet picks.

I thought it was wrong headed to criticize Walz and think it is wrong headed to criticize Hegseth at this point. The man has earned two Bronze Stars, that entitles the man to some respect and the benefit of the doubt in my view.

It did get to where every unit commander in Afghanistan got a bronze star just for being there, so there is that. Nonetheless, he is more qualified than I, and more qualified than his president. Regards, Bill

Bill is right, they gave out bronze medals to officers like 3rd grade participation trophies.
But, he is smart, and I would like to see what a younger man could do. replace him if he isnt up to it.

I do not criticize his service. I criticize his service and position a as Fox News host as qualifying him for this role.

However, I must concede Back40s point.

I hasten to say that generally, selecting an ex General or Admiral has not guaranteed anything as far as performance and competence.

Hegseth will be just fine - he's nobody's fool.

Mathis was a great Sec of Defense. Trump would not listen and sight to destroy our post WWII peace structure. So, Mathis resigned. Good for him for doing the honorable thing.

He doesn't remotely qualify to run the largest Department in the Federal government, and going from two retired 4-star Generals to a National Guard Major is like divorcing Monica Bellucci to shack up with MTG.

Biden's SecDef had 40 years of military experience including major commands including Centcom. Hegseth's biggest command was a platoon.

He was trained for strategic planning and tactical operations, among other things.
I have always wondered if someone not so clouded by decades of politics mixed into their service might see clearer.
I guess we will find out. As I said, if he cant do the job, replace him.

One of my students just sent me this line from an AP report on Hegseth. It's pretty funny:

A lethal military is not a bad thing.

If anyone has a valid opinion here…it’s you.

But I wholeheartedly agree with your second sentence.

Lane, I have no better an idea if he can do the job as anyone else.
I have just long wondered if the OG's are always the best choice, as entrenched as they are.
We will see, boot him if he cant do it.
I cant be any more wrong than jeffi has been. Big Grin
