Latest report I see is that it's expected to be category 4 by landfall in Florida's Big Bend.

By the time it gets here, South Georgia, it's forecast to be category 1 with up to 45 mph winds and 70 mph gusts, accompanied by possible tornados. The eye trajectory is forecast to pass 10-15 miles east of here.

I remember the last time. First the roar of the wind, then the calm in the eye, then the roar of the wind again coming from the other direction. An interesting fact is that in the northern hemisphere hurricanes spin counterclockwise. Right now, the wind is ENE. When the eye passes, the wind will shift to WSW.

The worst of it is forecast to last about 8 hours, from about midnight till about 8am. The eye is predicted to pass over or near between 2am and 3am. That's when the wind shifts direction.

It took the road and power lines crews over ten days to clean up most of the mess.

Ya'll have a good night, I may not have internet or electricity by morning.

Destin is supposed to be close to the worst of it. Did they leave town or stay?

BTW, that area, the BIG Bend, is great fishing, between hurricanes.

Been prepping for 2 days now. Last time 6 years ago we lost power for 11 days. Being rural, we have a well, so no water till power was restored. A portable generator kept the refrigerator and some lights going but water to flush toilets came out of the pond in buckets. Cooked on the propane grill, showered using a solar shower and pond water. Our driveway was blocked with a hot downed power line for 2 days so couldn’t leave home except on the UTV… Luckily for us Helene has tracked eastward the last 2 hours and now puts us on the “clean” side of the eye. Winds should be less. We’ve had 4” of rain so far and the storm isn’t even near us yet. Going to be a very long night sleeping in an interior hallway with wife and dogs.

Destin is about 75 or more miles from predicted landfall. Tropical storm conditions at the worst. Panama City , where our condo is located, is just on the edge of the hurricane zone. I cleaned out the refrigerator there 2 days ago in case of prolonged power outage but I doubt this will occur..

This one will be felt far beyond the Big Bend:

For South Carolina up into North Carolina:

This will be one of the most significant weather events to happen in the western portions of the area in the modern era. Record flooding is forecasted and has been compared to the floods of 1916 in the Asheville area.

Tornado warnings all over Georgia, South Carolina and into North Carolina, practically all of South Carolina is under a Tornado Watch until Friday morning.

So, there's a guy here in town who was forced by his wife to buy some Hawaiian real estate for retirement. He is an unredeemable cheapskate and bought in the volcano zone on the Big Island.

Yep, the volcano erupted and the lava ate his place lock stock and barrel.

So this other guy, a friend of mine here has recently been building a beach front home in Florida. I asked him tonight where it was in relation to the hurricane and he said the eye made landfall right over the top of it.

Last I heard is was a very large ( as in surface area) storm. I'm curious how long the calm is, in the eye, before it hits again.

We dodged a bullet when the storm turned eastward right before landfall. Lots of rain(8+”) but no really high winds. We slept on the floor in an interior hallway just in case. No power loss and so far looks like minimal cleanup. We’re still under a tropical storm wind warning but that’s nothing to sweat. Hallelujah! dancing

Same here. It roared a bit but not like the last one which rattled the house (a doublewide BTW).

I can judge the severity from the branches broken in the pecan orchard. There were no big branches on the ground this morning and very few pecans on the ground. The last big one ruined the crop for pecans and for farmers.

The harvest machines and crews have been running day and night for peanuts and cotton ahead of the storm. The peanuts still in the ground and the cotton which hasn't been defoliated are still safe. It's those crops which have been prepped for harvest which would be ruined if not harvested in time.

I noticed when the eye passed over, but didn't measure the time. I figure its passing lasted about an hour. Just as predicted, the wind is from WSW and gusting this morning. By noon it should be over hereabouts.

The forecast is for lots of rain north of here.

Tallahassee closed all Waffle Houses.

When will this current nightmare end.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more fatalities in Western N.C. and East Tennessee from flooding than were killed in Florida. 54 people were rescued from the roof of a hospital in Unicoi County, Tn., multiple dam failures near Asheville, I-40 washed out near the State line, will be closed for a while.

Bunch of small mountain towns like Chimney Rock just essentially gone. Of course, towns in mountains tend to be on the only flat spots available, river valleys. They were already having some flooding before the remnants of Helene showed up and dropped up to 20" of rain on top of the floods.

They got the word out to us that they were okay from some red from some red cross distribution center or something where they were lined up to get a case of water. They said the damage in Asheville is biblical. 39 dead as of this morning and a load missing..

I've seen several videos on YouTube and have been tempted to post some links. It really is astonishing the damage that happened North of here.

The river and creeks hereabouts were up somewhat but not like I've seen it in the spring often times.

Between the Florica coast and Tennessee and NC the damage was nothing like that hereabouts. Luck is the nature of nature.

Western North Carolina and upper East Tennessee were already dealing with considerable flooding before the remnants of Helene dumped 20" of rain on them. There just wasn't anything to catch that much water.

I'm not going to say "I told you so" but I told ya'll it was coming before the hurricane made landfall.

The Mayor of Asheville says they still have 600 people "unaccounted for". With cell service out hopefully those are mostly just out of contact but the way some of those debris flows ran there will be a bunch that are never found.

His campaign claimed they were "delivering" supplies at the photo-op in Valdosta, now they admit they are just "coordinating" supplies actual charities and relief organizations are actually delivering, which means they aren't doing anything except claiming credit for shit other people are doing.

A standard Trump move.

His supporters are too stupid to recognize him claiming credit for stuff he has nothing to do with.

Has anybody ever seen a serious Presidential candidate running a trailer-park Home Shopping Network while campaigning, selling watches that haven't even been designed yet, trading cards, tennis shoes, NFTs and now whatever his new financial scam is?

No wonder they can't afford eggs, the morons have sent all their money to Trump or spent it on Trump flags to fly from their transgendered pickups.
