That's just the natural end point for the Christo-fascist wing of the Republican Party.

How many believe the shit he spouts but won't acknowledge it publicly is unknown but substantial. Then there are a bunch more who are with him on the demons and witchcraft stuff but not quite there on wanting to kill people over it.

Then there's the third of the Republican Party, including officials as high as Speaker of the House, who think this should be a Christian Country run according to their interpretation of the Bible; their version of Sharia Law. Some of those post here.
