Trump did call out the allies who are not living up to their promises. NATO isn’t organically required to have certain defense levels… But Trump running his mouth did Jack-all. What got the members to take defense seriously was Putin’s aggression. While Trump’s statements were an acknowledgment of the elephant in the room, which is more than Biden has done, it wasn’t particularly constructive. I still think the EU members should be putting up more. An expansionist Russia is much more their issue than ours. A lot of the NATO members are willingly joining in with some of China’s foreign policy. I really doubt that if we get in a conflict with China that our NATO allies will be as supportive of us as they have Ukraine. | |||
