It's been recently mentioned before herein that it seems the supply and demand for eggs has changed recently. I paid nearly $12 for a dozen yesterday. I didn't notice to price until they were rung up, but took them anyway. I haven't purchased an egg in fifteen years....I really don't like store bought eggs... My neighbor raises chickens and beef cows. I hay my fifteen acres and give him about 25 round bales a year....he gives me eggs and beef when he butchers. I also keep him stocked with venison sausage and bream from my pond. | |||

But still one hell of a lot cheaper than $12/dozen. No body in their right mind would pay that…. You need to broaden your shopping options. I live 3 miles from ANY grocery store and eggs are about $6/dozen or less, depending on size. You’re getting screwed. Hope you at least got a kiss out of the deal…. We have been lucky here. Local Kroger 5-6 dollars for a 12. I read the avian bird flu has killed the commercial stock down, and the ones not killed have been affected by less production. It would not be hard to imagine that pathogen even in a small, coup setting reckoning havac. That is the most logical explanation I have heard. Milk prices and potato prices are about the same as last year within the margin of error. Has anyone noticed a difference in the price of cooking chicken? | |||

Today in DLG eggs are $.55 ea. M.E. fully understands the difference in real world pricing and economies what it's like to spend a buck in rural AK. Sometimes fellas you buy what you need to buy and the cost is beside the point. I doubt M.E.'s expensive purchase hurt him anymore than the $9 per gallon of milk hurts me. We need it, we buy it. What I don't like is the, " it's all gone!" routine. We ran out of toilet paper and I bought a bidet toilet seat. We run out of eggs, I bought powdered eggs and we're getting chickens. This shortage of staples thing isn't cool. | |||

So how would the avian flu affecting our commercial chicken/egg supply be Democrats fault? We have a Dem Gov. Our gas prices are cheaper than TX, and our grocery bill on average is cheaper than TX. Milk is not more expensive neither is beef here I am sure out of the way places like Alaska, Hawaii, maybe places like the Dakota’s things cost more. We have to add the cost to get there. I never understood why has in Texas was so expensive. It is the oil capital. I live right in the I75 corridor. You can doubt all you want. It is the truth. I bet because places like WY, and Dakota ship out their ag production and have to have a bunch of product shipped in. Of course, buying local May affect that. We are talking big box store pricing. I just bought an 8 pound whole chicken for 5 dollars at Kroger. That was cheaper than strips because of less production cost. Bottom line, Dems have nothing to do with the price of eggs currently. Tinned mackerel that last year were 53 pence a tin (so about 65 cents ) are now 73p a tin about 90 cents. Same tin, same mackerel, not the same price! And given that they don't export what they might catch as mackerel in Ukraine how is this Putin's fault? Eggs? US eggs can't be sold in Europe (as in the US they wash eggs) and European eggs can't be sold in the US (as in the EU they don't wash eggs). One place makes it illegal to sell unwashed eggs and the other illegal to sell washed eggs. | |||

Regular unleaded (87 octane) is 3.60 here in the frozen north. Of course, we have to have ethanol added here, the only way you get no alcohol is the off road vehicle premium which is about $7. | |||

the egg and chicken thing was manipulated by the Chinese owners by creating a false shortage. they basically forced the suppliers to drop production, then claimed dropped production for rising prices. production was quickly raised up to the former levels but the price remained. production then become too high so the supplier prices had to be lowered to compensate for the glut. less money out to get the product,,, more money coming in from the inflated prices. exact same game plan they used to jack up pork prices when they took over Smithfield. | |||

Eggs in New England have not increased..I guess that's because the supply is local and not giant chinese run places where they stuff 10,000 hens in a tiny metal shack. Know your farmer. Buy local. | |||

I had a local source up until last year (4$/dozen) - absolutely wonderful eggs, but he had very few customers and always had too many eggs, so he sold or slaughtered all of his chickens. Now, of course, everyone wants a "local" source, so with the higher demand, the "local" eggs are as much as or more expensive than the ones at the store (currently 9$/dozen). | |||
