We do have the ability to make them unable to push their neighbors around for a few decades.

The military is pretty darn good at doing military things - ask the Houthis, Sadaam, OSB, etc .. the POLITICANS are pretty terrible at "nation building" -- In an over simplified way, warriors have two settings .. shoot, don't shoot.
Then the politicians get involved, and it turns into a dog's breakfast at best
