At very best, that muzzle is two or three inches off the front of his head. Sorry, but this is poor weapon handling.
Mike, grab a rifle and hold that same position, line up your body with a doorway. I just did myself. You would have to have the rifle pulled back against your torso to be 2-3 inches from his head. You got sucked in by what they wanted you to see. I would feel comfortable with someone beside me holding a gun that way. I would not want them to turn to the left, but this was a staged photo. We would be lined up in a formation the same manner for an inspection. It is not what you think you are seeing.

The gunhandling doesn’t bug me. I agree with TB40.
What I don’t get is why the cabinet level secretary is spending all her time doing photo ops and running along on missions. She’s supposed to be running the agencies not being a supernumerary unofficial agent.
I could see myself going and shooting and taking some range time for internal morale purposes, but near as I can tell with my 40 year out of date ROTC experience (ie nothing on TB40’s) is that inexperienced and untrained folks increase risk in operations and doing dog and pony shows wastes valuable asset’s time and also takes an executive away from doing what they are there to do… administer.
Yes, meeting the line folks and getting information on what they need is important. Ride alongside are not an efficient way of doing that.

I can remember standing in formation with rifles at "port arms", much as shown, because we were ordered to stand that way. This criticism is a nothing burger. I don't find the messaging appealing, but neither am I offended by it. Regards, Bill
The BP and ice agents spent 4 years with Mayorkas, not only ignoring them, but accusing them of things they didnt do. There were always top brass we had to know about, but never saw. The ones running our lives. On rare occasions, ( maybe twice I think, in 8 yrs) we saw the base commander. We would stand a little straighter, and his words meant more than any others we heard. Now, I couldnt tell you why it mattered more to us, back then it did. I want her to give those people some respect and consideration, after the last 4 yrs they had. I might be comfortable with you standing next to me holding a weapon that way but not some stage-dressed Barbie there for a photo op.
There is no finger near the trigger guard, the safety appears engaged, and unless that magazine is really odd, it doesn’t look like it’s seated fully.

Regarding the rest of your post, as I have noted, she appears to have the weapon's muzzle pointed dangerously close to the guy's head that is next to her. I was never in the military or law enforcement, but I've had the rules of gun safety drilled into me from the time I was twelve, and I've taught them to my son and other young people.
The muzzle of her rifle is pointed unacceptably close to that officer's head. Photos I've seen of officers carrying rifles this way show the barrels aimed well above the head of the guy next to them.
Part of the problem is she's much shorter than the male officer, which lowers the muzzle to be in line, or closely in line with his head. And that's a short-barreled AR.
Dr. Butler, you surprise me. It doesn't matter that the gun is unloaded, that the safety is engaged, or that her finger isn't in the trigger guard. All of that is irrelevant, no defense to an accident.
You never point a gun at or near anything you don't wish to destroy.

As I said before, take a rifle/shotgun, stand in a doorway lined up in the middle. Hold the gun in the same position she is, buttstock against her thigh, elbow bent to her side. That barrel will be a foot or better in front of the agent beside her. It's SOP for formation. You dont like it, fine, but your full of shit to say it's in line with his head. Stick to writing fiction.
