I will say that in a personal incident that I have an opinion about police malfeasance. My neighbor, who used to work for me was arrested for supposedly child molestation. I found that hard to believe as he was suffering from Alzheimer + emphysema at the time + couldn't walk across the room. Also he was a really bad alki. 5th of bourbon a day along with beer.Anyway the cops picked him up, + when I told them about his infirmities, they just said, we ain't giving him nothing. Long story short, he went into a coma + had to be star flighted to a major hospital in Austin. The real kicker here was that the hospital kept trying to get the PD to give them a contact # to find out power of attorney, etc. This went on for 2 weeks, until (I assume that hospital threatened to sue the SO) they FINALLY found my phone #. I was on the horn with the head RN + I gave her my son's # ,who had POA, + he said pull the plug + that was it. I will mention that in the 2 weeks that Dave was in the jailhouse, we were not allowed to visit, because "he hadn't been properly booked yet" B.S. They just didn't want anyone to see how bad he was beat up. Oh + the icing on the cake was that after died, WillCo sent me a bill for his hospital bill to the tune of around $68K, I really kept hoping that they would try to push it as I'm sure I could have sued the shit out of them because I was only a neighbor, but I'm sure someone down there put the brakes on as I never heard from them again. End result; Dave was dead, by ineptitude of the local SO, he might have been guilty, we will never know because the SO killed him in their custody. This has been over 20 years ago, but it still pisses me off that the local SO can + does get away with murder.
