What has happened is the rank and file citizens in Hati don’t buy that the legal system is either going to deal with the situation or appropriately punish the wrongdoers. These guys were apprehended and disarmed. It sounds like there may have been some agreement from the cops and the mob. The analogy to the US is that more and more, a large part of the citizens feel that the courts are not stopping crimes, and that punishment is inadequate to the crime. The courts repeatedly feel capital punishment is inappropriate and have mucked it up. The citizenry seems to overwhelmingly approve of execution of certain types of criminals. News flash to the government and lawyers… the system is not seen as working well, and your reforms seem to be coddling the criminals, not the law abiding. When it takes years to get to trial and then punishment is weak, you get this kind of thing happening. Do I think we are a failed state? No. But in our bending over backwards to satisfy the minority community “advocates” we have gotten too lax in prompt punishment. The idea that the law isn’t going to do anything for minor shoplifting is a prime example. | |||

Again, Justice is not outcome based. It is process based. Was due process followed to deprive someone of liberty. Since we are all presumed not guilty with certain Federally guaranteed rights against arrest, search and seizure, and right to counsel and jury. Sine, we are not a police state.
