Mike MitchellNew Canadian PM tells trump to stuff it
So much for trump's fantasies about Canada....
“We didn’t ask for this fight, but Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves. So, Americans should make no mistake. … In trade, as in hockey, Canada will win,” Carney said.

SaeedHe was being polite.
He should have said “only the most stupid, ungrateful, coward of a neighbor would suggest this! Well, I suppose one does expect this sort of thing from an individual known as CADET BONE SPURS!”

I suspect that Canada is largely self-sufficient and can get what they don't already have with a little shipping money. Now that some northern shipping lanes are warming up, it will cost less to ship stuff anyway.
Mohawk smugglers will be happy with Trump and I idly wonder about Crows, Blackfeet, and Maine lobster boats...

Story by Charlie Jones • 1h • 4 min read
The US stock market promptly fell following the social media post.
Trump also vowed further tariffs on Canada on April 2.
He also said he will declare a 'National Emergency on Electricity' in the areas affected by Canadian electricity tariffs.
======================================
Why not April 1st?
Is he worried that day, henceforth, may become known as Trump's Day?
Also, declaring a National Emergency is something we WILL see again, strategically and caused by Trump.

He sure did, and with a Federal election looming here in less than two months, I’m pretty certain Canadians will vote as far opposite to Trump as they can. Until Trump flapped his corpulent yap, we had a chance of getting rid of the Liberals. Not now!
Why wouldn’t they vote opposite to him? He’s said publicly that he intends to cripple us economically so he can take us over. Well, fuck him. Putin thought taking Ukraine would be easy, has Trump learned nothing from that?

Bill LeeperBecause people may view Trump as a conservative (incorrectly, I might add), it will hurt the Conservatives in the election. His tariffs may cause some difficulties, but his interference in the Canadian electoral process is the real insult. He likely wants Mark Carney. Carney is a banker. Trump loves bankers. Carney doesn't mind debt; Trump has made a living with debt. Bill

Losing 10s of thousands of dollars on folks 40-k is not fine living. Destroying our economic and strategic alliances are not fine living.

the tariff war is dumb - should never have happened -
now, LHeym -- NOW you are saying damaging peoples unrealized gains in a 401k is BAD, but 4 months ago you were in SUPPORT of taxing them at over 30% EVERY YEAR ...
the answer is, both are terrible
12 March 2025, 18:28
LHeym500If you cannot see the distinctions between the two, I am not going to waste time explaining it.
One is a legitimate action of the federal government to raise revenue across the board. The other creates nothing and is the legally dubious action of a Chief Executive.
And I have said I would exempt a level of value somewhere around 5 million dollars in accessed value.
There is a difference in tax and artificially whipping out value by executive order.

What? By a serial sex offender, pathological liar and indicted felon who steals from his own charity to the point where he’s no longer allowed one?
Yeah, we’ll pass, thanks. In fact, we’ll pass with extreme prejudice if it comes to that.

Instead of upping the electricity prices, they added tariffs on other items.

Oh it is.
Saying it destroys retirement is like saying traces destroy my pay check or land values. It could, has not yet.
Excepting the frost 5 mill will not destroy retirements.

30% hit every year... I can't absorb that
13 March 2025, 03:20
LHeym50030 percent on value over 5 mill is not absurd. It is every class contributing to the operation of government.
You know what they failed to do in the prelude to the French and Russian Revolutions.
Oh, and Trump is talking more tariffs since EU and Canada said, “ All right big man.”
It is more than dumb.
I hope no one needs to build a house or office in the near future.
The markets will return when Trumpism is broken.
I watched Fox News for an hour yesterday. The entire hour was anti-trans and gay propaganda. There was no coverage of the economy, jobs, actions taken by the Administration, nor international politics. This is because the far right knows that the only way they can prevent a popular, uprising at the polls is to hide the affects of their advocacy in the Gay Scare.
13 March 2025, 04:35
jeffeossoso, 30% on UNREALIZED gains, THEN tax when taking it out, repeating --
take $1000 dollars, invested at 5% return PER YEAR, then the government TAKES 30% of the TOTAL value, that's -25%, THEN pay close to 30% when you WANT or are FORCED to do withdrawl?
Dude, don't believe me -- call ANY JD Edwards advisor and ask them what they think ...
i know, you are going to play the "it's 30% of the gain and only for $5m..." game --
NOW, mister government employee, are you aware that the IRS was only supposed to be like 1.5% on the absolute last 1% of earners?
Does the government EVER back off on expanding rules/authority/sources of income?
your stimulation that "30% off 5$5million is not absurd" is absurd - ANYONE/Family making 100K can make 5m before retirement with VERY limited advice, can make $5M in their 401k -- because the @#%@#%@#% Deal was you pay taxes on the way OUT --
so, under current law, if I have $5m in unrealized (it's NOT INCOME, sir -- )gains, and suddenly the commies want 30%, which means the sale of assets ALSO costs 30% tax ...
I already pay FAR FAR FAR more in taxes than the median income - I invested fairly in the game, and THEN they want to change the rules, and double tax me --
you don't have a 401k do you?

I don't have a 401(k). I have a SEP, traditional IRA, and a Roth. For all but the Roth, the IRS annually tells me I have to take so much out as taxable income. It's not an insignificant amount.
Why should I pay tax on what's still in the accounts when the government taxes me on the amounts I have to withdraw?
Your proposal is a non-starter as far as I'm concerned. Once Congress gets used to the idea, the amount of your deduction will go down from $5 million as they try to grab more.
As for Fox News, you know you can't get that hour of your life back, right?
13 March 2025, 06:47
LHeym500Not do I, but the hue and cry from my colleges with them us not something one cannot ignore. They sure ain’t.
I personally do not care that one thinks an idea is a non-starter. We tax accesses value all the time. My real waste is not worth less for it.
Everyone quotes, “The power to tax is the power to to destroy.” No one reads the next paragraphs where Chief Justice Marshall declares the pier to tax rest w Congress, by dnd through the people.
Like the prelude to the French and Russian revolutions large class are not paying while other sector of the people pay. One cannot tax folks with no wealth and fund anything.
It is wealth and should be treated like income. Just like other income we can discuss at what level we tax vs exempt. The current tax of “income” is outdated, not sustainable, and not working.

Let me give it to you in a nutshell
The 401k is meant to be used as a pre-tax savings account for retirement, where you put in PRE-TAX $ (% and $ limited) funds into an account, SOMETIMES there is an employer matching (usually in some complicated % issue) that goes into, basically (this isn't complete, its a sketch) goes into a fidelity (type) account, where the plan has a range of investment funds available. THe deal is that you are taxed, as income, for withdraws PAST retirement age - however, if you take it out early, you are penalized with a MUCH higher tax % - I have heard numbers approaching 70-80% of all common stock is owned by the funds and there, by fractional ownership - the individuals - There is already an agreed to tax rate in place, that
treats it exactly like income on the way out

sigh -- RE taxes are state and local taxes (sometimes even metro) - you RE isn't worth less for it, you are correct, however, your wealth is diminished-- it's a fact, you are giving wealth out to pay the state and local taxes - not federal, irrelevant

"Wealth" is not limited to income - in fact, MOST wealthy families and persons do NOT rely on a personal income - they rely on invests THAT ARE ALREADY TAXED TO THE HEAVENS AT SALE!
The 16th A only allows for INCOME -
GAAP sigh -- i suggest you send 15 minutes looking up definitions of a few terms from GAAP -
