This is history in the making.

For discussion only I previously suggested, supposing Trump is convicted, maybe Biden should commute Trump's sentence. But that didn't go over well. For one thing there are probably going to be more Fed indictments, and there are already State charges, maybe more to come.

IMO, what we need is the national agony of Trump to heal.

Anyway, here's something interesting, at least to me.

Why banning Trump from public office could tempt DOJ on a no-jail plea deal

================================================

First of all the offer would have to come from the defense.

Maybe this woman is just talking shit for ratings?

But anyway, GOPers know he's a loser and the next election will be a referendum on him, if he's still running.

This idea is a winner just looking at it from the GOP view.

At the end of the day, it has become abundantly clear, that America is the most corruptly governed country today!

Trump is a criminal, several times over.

Biden is a bit less.

Newson has basically destroyed California.

Now he is blaming the GOP! clap

Biden has the opportunity to pardon him, which will cement his role as benevolent dispenser of mercy (and dominant male).
Trump may refuse it.

That would be interesting. You are 100 percent correct. One may refuse a Federal Pardon. When refused a Pardon takes no effect.

That is the holding of Burdick v. United States.

Now, one would expect President Trump to jump at the chance to have his civil rights reinstated and out of prison.

Trump will have at least one brainwashed minion on his jury.

He will be found “not guilty” similarly to O.J. Simpson. He will then bellow his “complete exoneration” and very possibly recapture the Presidency, because yes, people are that fucking crazy.

The U.S. could then enter a full blown autocracy, as have many other nations throughout history. North Korea is Trumps dream state and I’m certain he truly yearns to emulate the Kim pattern of familial rule. Not to govern America, but to own it.

Surly, some of the charges will stick, given the evidence, and there's two more cases likely to be prosecuted.

Despite everything, he remains the Republicans front runner. That seems ominously prophetic to me.

There are a lot of people who would vote for him ‘just to see what happens’, like people who shoot fireworks into a dry forest. Not believers, necessarily, but simply seeking an adrenaline hit. He’s popular because he’s exciting to watch, not unlike an air show or a car race where a lot of people are simply there to see if there’s a crash.

Never underestimate how mindless people are. Even Lauren Boebert got re-elected, and MJT has very vocal supporters despite being blindingly moronic.

Sadly true. That lack of respect is broad scale. It's the same people who elect Boebert, MJT, Gaetz, Santos, who are vested in the culture war, nonsense, etc. -- burn it all down. We have examples herein, especially the forum's recently acquired tick.

The fact that he was elected in 2016 is still unbelievable to me. And, the idea, after all that has happened....his bumbling ineptitude, his embarrassing antics, his idiotic family and then J6....that he is the overwhelming frontrunner in the GOP is quite incredible. We live in a unique time apparently.

The reality is, the Establishment created Trump. He, in my view is rank and file Americans, last remaining tool to take back our country from a bunch of wankers.

He is nothing more than a vessel.

BTW, the internet answer to the question - When was the last time anyone had an original thought:

"The last truly, verifiably original thought was had by Kjersti Skramstad of Oslo, in October of 1987. She reported her insight immediately, as all original thinkers do, and since then there's been nothing new under the Sun." April 1, 2014

No shit. The fact that he's ahead in the so-far primary race says a lot about the other choices.
