20 years ago, an AR member, Vic Sullivan, (mainly African hunting forums) wanted to show his appreciation for the young Marines stationed at Albany Supply Depot.
Vic had a couple of thousand acres in various agricultural plantings and the DNR told him he’d need to cull 10 does that year. Vic asked me to help with the logistics and new hunter education and I readily agreed.

Yesterday was the final day of our 20th hunt. We have always had great rapport with the base leadership and they help us all they can.

Damnit, but Vic died unexpectedly in March but his wife and son marched on. On Tuesday evening the “Over the Hill Gang” (the five of us who guide and educate) have their own supper with wine and brandy and good Cuban cigars. The Marines show up midday on Wednesday, are given a deer rifle to use, shoot with supervision until they hit a 2” disc at 100 meters, have competition at 300 meters (six inch steel gong) for a framed combat map of Iwo Jima and ride a quail buggy wit boiled peanuts and a beer to see their respective stands.
We then have a catered South Georgia barbecue and go to a roaring campfire for a word or three from the Over the Hill Gang (combat vets all) with an emphasis on what their 20+ years in the Corps prepared them for in their after-the-Corps life. Then the young Marines relate their own “who, where, when” stories.
All ten of the Marine hunters are in a stand before light, most with a guide who helps them select a mature doe.
At noon we have a food truck fried seafood lunch, bass fishing (2 five pound bass were caught along with 30 or so smaller stuff). Catch and release. Then back to the stands for the ones who didn’t connect in the a.m.

We killed our 10 and had them at the processor by 20:00 that day. Amazing population, for sure.

My Boykin Spaniel was pretty darn busy, herself. We don’t want any neophytes wandering around tracking deer, so if your deer doesn’t drop in sight, the guys (and some years women) stay put and Millie and I go and find the deer. For safety she has a gps collar and a tiny flashing light on her harness. She found three this year and no wounded deer were lost.

Two things: Vic Sullivan truly loved his Marines and was selfless in his gift of his land, time and finances. God Speed Vic… and now his son Victor.
Secondly, not one political word was spoken the whole time.
We all should learn that being an American patriot doesn’t mean you have to call other patriots liars, idiots or evil.
Let’s try to do better.
I will.

I will raise a glass to Mr. Sullivan. What a classy gentleman. Kudos to his wife and son for keeping the project alive.

Did it strike you that the judge's post is a direct challenge to your character since you spread division and hate against all Democrats and liberals.

Your self confessed identity as a White Christian Nationalist is the real problem.

Unless you have suddenly turned a new leaf, your above post is so hypocritical.

Confound it, bad form and unnecessary.

Hats off to the love, generosity, and respect.

Well done Ernest, both on the event and the attempt to inject a little reality and civility to this place.

Judge, your friend (Vic), his family, and the OTHG have my eternal respect.

Politics are a fleeting thing, and (IMO), aren't worthy of our concerns beyond our ritual four-year angst.

What is of vital importance are the people in uniform willing to place themselves in harm's way for their country (regardless of which nimrod is the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue). Time spent afield with others of like mind while benefitting the environment is a reward beyond measure...for all involved.

Well and truly done, Sir!
