I just wonder why no one ever seems to be able to get it right? Greed?

There are two cow turds in a field. By each is a sign that identifies them respectively as brown cow shit or black cow shit. A traveler on a nearby path reads the signs and based on his reading of the sign, his self righteousness, his agenda-driven education, inductive reasoning and what his buddies think, smiles and blissfully steps in the brown cow shit. He concludes he’s infinitely smarter than anyone who’d even consider stepping in black cow shit.

The irony is that he just could’ve stayed on the path and avoided both piles.

So… shit is shit, regardless of two things. First, it doesn’t matter who produced it and secondly, it’s still shit no matter how self righteously you step in it.
