Nathan Hooven is a disabled Air Force veteran who voted for Donald Trump in November. Barely three months later, he’s now unemployed and says he feels betrayed by the president’s dramatic downsizing of the federal government that cost him his job.

“I think a lot of other veterans voted the same way, and we have been betrayed,” said Hooven, who was fired in February from a Virginia medical facility for veterans. “I feel like my life and the lives of so many like me, so many that have sacrificed so much for this country, are being destroyed.”

The mass firing of federal employees since Trump took office in January is pushing out veterans who make up 30% of the nation’s federal workforce. The exact number of veterans who have lost their job is unknown, although House Democrats last month estimated that it was potentially in the thousands.


More could be on the way. The Department of Veterans Affairs — a major employer of veterans — is planning a reorganization that includes cutting over 80,000 jobs from the sprawling agency, according to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press. Veterans represent more than 25% of the VA’s workforce.

He knew trump was a scorpion when he voted.

We all feel for veterans but create jobs that have no production or purpose should not be created in the first place
Why would government create these kinda jobs in first place?

I have a feeling that the real purpose of these layoffs are not efficiency, but to spread fear.

You're viewing the world from the perspective of a draft dodging bone-spurred (and simultaneously a star athlete who could have gone pro) ‘fortunate son’ who asked “What’s in it for them?”

Trumps ONLY consideration re: any issue at all, is ‘what’s in it for him’ personally. He even admitted it on camera, in a moment of speaking spontaneously when he said “All my life, I’ve been greedy, greedy, greedy!”.

The problem is, his sycophants are so mesmerized by that snake charming deceiver that they even ignore it when he spits right in their faces.

I read a quote last night that fits perfectly:

“When people in power tell blatant, easily disproved and contradictory lies they are not trying to trick or deceive. They are demonstrating their power over their followers. The more audacious the lie that their followers accept, the more it demonstrates their control.”

He controls their pathetic, weak minds and will use them mercilessly to his personal advantage, and with no regard whatever for the harm done to others.

If jobs are eliminated, more then likely they were not important in first place
The talk of balancing the budget has been around for long time
I don’t think there is anything wrong for actually implementing financial measures to reach balanced budget and pay down the debt
In my opinion, we are fiscally runaway train heading towards a cliff

As a combat veteran, many have forgotten that veteran preference is STILL in effect, not affected by the closure of DEI-which was a travesty-in sheep's clothing.

I'm sure they just picked on veterans.....

Bill just loves paying exorbitant taxes, he loves our debt and deficits......

The VA submits a budget, congress gives them x dollars. The money is split to the VA hospitals, depending on numbers being seen, and for what.
I have a friend who has his right calf, back of his thigh and right butt cheek, mostly missing, from an IED. He has a small engine business, and stands a good deal of the time working. When at the VA, the doc told him to go see dept XYZ, they might be able to upgrade his workspace and get some pain relief from it.
The office told him, well, we dont have any money for rubber matts or anything. we havnt had for a couple years, or know when we will get some. But! we will put you on a list.
The vet who lost his job may have, and is likely to be in a similar dept. The money saved from his job, does not go back to the gov. It goes to a dept like TBI, that never has enough to cover everyone, and is better served there.
As my buddy say's. "Well, if I do things half assed, it's because I am!" Humor keeps him going.
