Yeah, and not from a foreign power.
You can say what you wish. This is a play to get around the Constitution to provide Trump with a gift from a foreign power. The whole hat is going to have to be taken apart bolt by bolt at a cost of a couple of billion.
We are only going to need a new jet whatever it cost once his term is over to replace e this one. It is a low point of stupid.
There is no defending this, but go ahead.

crbutlerWhile I agree that getting the plane was Trump's pathological need for bling, you guys have to admit now that you were wrong that the plane was going to Trump.
It went to the pentagon.
Of course, its going to cost a bunch of money to rebuild it and go over it for refurb and then bring it up to snuff with the requirements for AF1.
On the other hand, when is Boeing delivering the other planes? It may end up being AF 1 for a decade...
DOD (with the next president) would get to decide what they do with this aircraft...
We would only need a new jet if Trump is right and the current AF1 is actually not airworthy, and this new plane is not adequate... of course this plane might not be capable of landing in some spots that Trump likes to go, so he will waste money there also.

This jet is being given to us and being re-built. You got a problem with saving money, or are you just drunk and having one of your outbursts again?

The jet as is, is not safe nor fit to transport a president. That is not debatable. President Trump is getting a direct benefit to to tone of 1-2.4 billion all in from a foreign power and US tax payers.
There is no justification for this.
We don't NEED THE FUCKING THING since the 2 we have are adequate and we already have 2 more on order.

No offense, but you are an idiot. Current AF1 has been working fine. trump wants a gold shitter or some other kind of stupid shit that will be necessary on the Qatar jet..

crbutlerI get that. But folks are saying that the current AF1 is over 10 years past the date they were going to replace it by.
Boeing is way past date for delivery, for whatever reason.
Why are they replacing the current planes if they are "just fine"?
Of course, I agree that Trump is more interested in having "new".
Initially, you were going on about it being a full on grift for Trump to get a new airplane as personal property. That is not the case at this point. At best (worst?) it is Trump demanding the trappings of an imperial presidency.

Congress disagreed and authorized 2 new ones -
the current AF planes where commissioned 35 years ago - MOST 747 of that fleet cohort are retired, not even freighters. the last 747-8 rolled off the the assembly line in 2023, ending production of the cert type that the new AF1 planes are supposed to be
and yet, still, taking the qatar jet is STUPID
how about "where's my plane?" to boeing ??

jeffeossoDid ya'll know that there was already a plan in place to convert two "russian owned" 747-8i into AF1?

They are replacing the current AF planes because they are outdated not because they're not airworthy. They get the best maintenance so they are still useable. What does Boeing have to say about not making the order for new ones a priority? Unless it has changed the plan was for the DoD to transfer title to the plane to his presidential library which I assume means also that he is allowed use of it; I hope at his expense. Or those who are willing to donate to cover the costs.
I'm guessing that Qatar figures that they can get more in benefit$ by "donating" it than they could from selling it outright.

crbutlerI fully agree that it is wasteful spending if it is not replacing one of the current aircraft ordered.
I’m not privy to all of the requirements for AF1. I suspect Trump isn’t either (he may have the right to access it, but I doubt he does so…) the new gift plane may physically be everything needed… if so, great. Replace one of the two ordered and tell Boeing the loss of one is due to their failure to meet contract
No matter what, the USAF is going to upgrade and modify what they get.
Once the plane was not a personal gift to Trump, it became a matter of fiscal responsibility instead of grifting to Trump. Yes, Trump is a shallow Hal type guy. Bling, gold plated fixtures, “the best” matters inordinately to him. He’s not alone, as his hotel and resort properties do well.
The one time I was in a Trump hotel there was a term that Jeff Cooper used that I thought fit… ostentatious ugliness.
Yes it’s in the eye of the beholder.
Trump wants to cut excess spending, yet can’t (or more likely doesn’t care) to see the hypocrisy here.
Maybe Qatar could pony up to buy him an AN-225, like the one the Russians wrecked in Ukraine...
