A sister knows a thing or two, right?

Maryanne Trump Barry, federal judge and Trump’s sister, dies at 86
Frustrated by his presidency, Mrs. Barry called her brother ‘cruel’ in conversations secretly recorded by her niece

Maryanne Trump Barry, Donald Trump’s older sister and a former federal judge in New Jersey who was surreptitiously recorded by a family member criticizing her brother’s presidency, saying he was “cruel” and “has no principles,” was found dead Nov. 13 at her home on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She was 86.

Her death was confirmed by a law enforcement official and a person close to the Trump family speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss private matters. No other information was immediately provided.

Mrs. Barry and her real estate mogul brother were not known to be particularly close, and she made only rare visible ventures into his exceedingly public life. Her brother’s presidency, during which he made racist statements and villainized immigrants, strained their relationship further. She became a withering — though private — critic of her brother.

In 2018 and 2019, Mrs. Barry’s niece, Mary L. Trump, secretly recorded 15 hours of face-to-face conversations with her, releasing audio excerpts and transcripts to The Washington Post in 2020 after the publication that year of her best-selling book “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.”

“It’s the phoniness of it all,” Mrs. Barry told her niece. “It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.”

“All he wants to do is appeal to his base,” Mrs. Barry continued to her niece. “He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this.”

Her brother refused to concede his defeat in the 2020 presidential election and has been charged in federal and state courts for his alleged efforts to try to overturn Joe Biden’s victory. Trump remains the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Believe Trump’s Threats to Use the Presidency as His Personal Vengeance Machine
Opinion by Matt Lewis • 3h

“because this time, the velociraptors have figured out how to work the doorknobs.”

In recent weeks, two almost paradoxical developments have converged in the 2024 presidential race. First, Donald Trump is polling ahead of Joe Biden in the general election. And second, Trump has somehow raised the bar to previously unimaginable levels in terms of the violent and dehumanizing rhetoric he’s openly spouting on the campaign trail.

During a Veterans Day speech this past weekend, Trump threatened to “root out the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country.” He went on to note, “The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous and grave than the threat from within.”

Trump’s definition of “vermin” is broad—basically encompassing anyone who opposes him (so if I end up in Gitmo, you’ll know why).
Trump also recently attacked the New York judge overseeing his civil fraud case and the attorney general who brought the case. And on Monday, he claimed that Department of Justice Special Counsel Jack Smith and others would be “in a mental institution” by the time his next term ends.

Keep in mind, these comments follow Trump’s threats to use the FBI and Department of Justice against his political adversaries, as well as specific threats to “go after” Joe Biden.

Likewise, they come on the heels of a report in The Washington Post stating that Trump and his allies are “drafting plans to potentially invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office…”

It’s time to be honest about two things that many Americans might not be ready to grapple with: 1) It’s entirely possible (maybe even likely) that Trump will be elected president and 2) He will actually do the things he has promised.

Now, it’s understandable why most of us would prefer not to confront these potential realities.

For one thing, Trump’s norm-busting rhetoric (“Lock her up,” “human scum,” “enemies of the people,” “I am your retribution,” et al) have long ago desensitized us.

But it’s important not to tune him out. That’s because his recent comments seem indicative of how he’d govern during a second term (when he wouldn’t have to worry about getting re-elected).

After Trump was first elected in 2016, there was at least a hope that the awesome responsibility of the presidency would civilize him. After all, he had been a New York Democrat for most of his life. That, of course, did not happen, and anyone thinking that Trump would govern responsibly during a second term isn’t just deluding themselves, they are ignoring the last seven years.

One way to rationalize ignoring Trump’s comments is to simply dismiss him as a clown engaging in hyperbole to excite the rubes.

While it’s true that Trump did not do all of the things he promised he would do during his first term, this should provide us with little comfort.

For one thing, after hinting he wouldn’t accept the election results if he were to lose in 2016 and 2020, he actually followed through on not accepting those results when he, in fact, lost.

What is more, Trump’s image of himself as a victim has dramatically increased over the last several years (first the Mueller report, then the two impeachments, and numerous indictments).

What’s probably most important to remember is that there were too many guardrails in place during Trump’s first term to prevent him from doing all of the things he really wanted to do.

He was surrounded by military leaders like Chief of Staff John Kelly, Defense Secretary James Mattis, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.

These were just a handful of the people in the Trump administration who would slow-walk his orders or otherwise attempt to mitigate any potential damage.

Even Trump’s own judicial appointees often stymied his efforts to accomplish his goals, including his attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

In other words, Trump did not fully implement his stated goals because, according to him, the “deep state” stopped him.

This time around, however, Trump will be unencumbered and better prepared.

Two years ago, conservative writer David Frum shared with me his concerns about a second Trump administration. “I’m really worried about a return of Donald Trump this time,” Frum said, “because this time, the velociraptors have figured out how to work the doorknobs.”

Frum was ahead of the curve. As Axios reports, “Hundreds of people are spending tens of millions of dollars to install a pre-vetted, pro-Trump army of up to 54,000 loyalists across government to rip off the restraints imposed on the previous 46 presidents.”

Trump and his team have dramatically better intel regarding institutional weaknesses now than they had back in 2017.

When Donald Trump says he’ll use the presidency as his personal vengeance machine, you should believe him.

'Entire existence will be crushed': Trump spokesperson threatens critics
Story by David Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement • 22h

Trump campaign spokesperson is threatening critics who are comparing the ex-president’s Veteran’s Day remarks to those made by Hitler or Mussolini, saying they will be “crushed” when he returns to the White House.

Many responded with massive outrage and anger after Trump in his speech on Saturday likened anyone on the left who opposes him to “vermin,” and promised to “root out” the “communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs” if he wins the 2024 presidential election.

“We pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country that lie and steal and cheat on elections,” Trump said, claiming the threat from them is greater than the threat from countries like China, Russia, or North Korea, as The Washington Post reported.
“Trump’s use of the word ‘vermin’ both in his speech and in a Truth Social post on Saturday drew particular backlash,” The Post added, citing several experts.

“The language is the language that dictators use to instill fear,” Timothy Naftali, a senior research scholar at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, told The Post. “When you dehumanize an opponent, you strip them of their constitutional rights to participate securely in a democracy because you’re saying they’re not human. That’s what dictators do.”

The paper also spoke to noted NYU historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat, who via email to The Post said that, “calling people ‘vermin’ was used effectively by Hitler and Mussolini to dehumanize people and encourage their followers to engage in violence.”

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung, who also worked on the 2016 campaign and in the Trump White House, told The Post, “those who try to make that ridiculous assertion are clearly snowflakes grasping for anything because they are suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome and their entire existence will be crushed when President Trump returns to the White House.”

The New York Times’ Peter Baker summed up The Post’s report, writing: “Spokesman denies that Trump rhetoric echoes that of dictators like Hitler and Mussolini and declares that those who say it does will find ‘their entire existence will be crushed when President Trump returns to the White House.'”

Also responding to The Post’s report was author and MSNBC analyst Jonathan Alter, who wrote: “As we learned from Mein Kampf, when a demagogue tells you what he is going to do, believe him.”

Former Wall Street Journal managing editor Bill Grueskin, now a professor at the Columbia Journalism School, remarked: “In denying that Trump sounds like a Nazi, his spokesman sounds a lot like .. Goebbels.”

I invite you and other Trumpsters to do something I know you wouldn't normally do; that is to listen to this entire video from Maddow, who you call Mad Cow.

Listen to it all. the last segment is especially important. It's the Truth.

I'm now of the opinion that what Trump is offering, all of it, is exactly what you, Trumpsters, want - no not just want - crave.

You know what's happening, and you like it and want more.

If that's not accurate, then say so, which is something you haven't done.

Trump tests Republican Party willingness to follow him into fascism

Rachel Maddow looks at Donald Trump's recent more open embrace of fascistic language and points out that the one institution that could discourage his autocratic ambitions is the Republican Party he intends to continue to lead.

Bluefish is still dumber than a door, talk about a vacant space.

I will say this, I have some problems with relatives, or anyone that would secretly record others conversations, let alone 15 hours of them, and then release them, or make a book out of them. There seems to be a little grifter in all the Trumps.

This is the sister who was a Federal Judge until an ethics investigation was started into her involvement in Trump real estate deals she benefitted from. She resigned rather than answer any questions.

Will he be at her funeral, or does he hate her too much because of what she said about him?

Will he bury her in his unmowed body dump like his ex-wife?
