I'm not going to argue or debate anyone on this topic, i think it's horrible.

The mother is brain dead. I assume her soul has flown and she's holding hands with Jesus.

Would the mother want her baby to have a chance at life? I'd guess she would.

Would her parents or her spouse or her siblings want the dead mother's baby to have a chance at life? I'd guess they would.

I don't see how anyone is being cruel or even insensitive about or to the mother. The woman is passed, gone. The mother intended to get pregnant or at least intended to have the baby I guess? I would think she'd want her child to live.

Well, going back to the OP and reconciling that with Scott's opinion post, I agree with Scott on this one. But not for the same reasons. Scott has religious reasons, which in this case mesh with my humanitarian reasons.

IOW, I agree with the hopeful outcome, but such hope doesn't have the same basis.

I don't need to guess or assume anything other than the known facts which bottom line is that the baby has a chance. He/she has no vote in it. Give the baby a chance. He/she may save the world.

Well, Roland, it's not a tough call for me, as to the right thing to do.

If the next of kin, having power of attorney or otherwise the power, make the wrong call, that's on them.

My hope is that the whole matter, through the c-section and beyond, is covered by some sort of health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, etc., and the next of kin chips in and raises the child as a loving, influential, productive, constructive liberal.
