Alaskan writer doesn't think Canadians should reward her state's Republican vote with their dollars

To my friends and family in the Yukon.

The people of Alaska voted heavily in favour of Trump and his policies.

The town of Haines, Alaska relies on tourism from Canada to exist. Many of the residents of Haines will accept your Canadian Dollars with one hand while stabbing you in the back with the other.

This is an incredibly sad situation. I encourage the good people of the Yukon to boycott Haines as much as possible. In my opinion, the Maga's are unable to feel empathy. They only seem to care when something affects them personally. Less income for them will do that.

Let us look forward to the day when we can all rejoice again together.

Wow, is she going to be unpopular in her hometown.

I was an Alaskan for 43 years. The state majority of voters always vote Republican because most think the Rs are better for oil development. Alaska did go for the orange Messiah last election.

I don't wish harm to Alaskans, but believe they deserve whatever they get in the way of Canadian (and other foreign) boycotts. Tourism is now a big industry from Anchorage to Skagway, and a tourist boycott is bound to hurt.

My son wants me to go fishing with him in Alaska this summer. I don't know if I could mount an effective solo boycott, but it would be useless, since I'd only be going from one Messiah state to another.

As far as Yukoners boycotting Haines, where else would the ones living in the western part of the state go for their shopping?

Alaskans and Yukoners are not stereotypical Canadians and Americans.

Living in that part of the world imparts a sense of practicality, pragmatism and kinship that doesn’t exist in the lower 48. I spent several great years there myself - those people will not screw each other over because of one psychotic POTUS. They know better.

The rest of Canada? Hell, yeah. I’d rather go without than buy an American product, and it’s showing already in our retail outlets.

American stuff is on the less visible shelves; the Canadian stuff has big red maple leaves on it, the Florida oranges are spoiling, while the South African & Moroccan stuff is selling like hotcakes. Retailers are ordering and restocking ‘other than’ American.

Apparently Trump’s message that America hates its neighbors is resonating. Travel from Mexico is down 23% and from Canada travel is down 40%. Europeans are also jumping on board the travel boycotts. Of course, slamming the airline, hotel, restaurant, etc. industries is just another integral part of the Make America Great Again fiscal agenda. More winning. So much beautiful winning. Some say the most winning ever.

as i said it is just the beginning but the followers of the cult of the supreme leader will need a little more to swallow before understanding that when you go after your friends and allies a little if any is left ...
