I was"told" to shpw up for a wellness test.."required" by Medicare.

I could tell the quesions were aimed at the mental, not one question addressed the physical.

Answered them all, but upon leavong, I mentioned that this is "All about if I remember to zip up my pants" AND...I after getting pretty pointed, the nurse admitted this was NOT required by Medicare, to her knopwlege.

"Where do the results go?" I asked. She claimed she did not know.

OK,,,,here's the paranoid part! Lots of backhanded ways to "gun control" Suppose the results were shared with FBI, police, BATF, DMV, .....Hillary Clinton?

Maybe flub up on the day or date? Aha! Menally unfit to own firearms!!!

Far fetched? Any thoughts?

There is no wellness test required by Medicare. There is an annual wellness visit paid for by Medicare but it isn’t required, it’s just an option that is offered. And there is no mental test. It’s just an annual physical exam. Had mine a few weeks ago.

I don't ever recall being told to show up for a Medicare "wellness" test. One is entitled to an annual physical exam, but it's somewhat limited. There is a questionnaire which I didn't think was overly nosey. Also available is depression and a couple other types of screening which I don't recall doing. Some of that can be done online through your medical provider.

As an aside part of qualifying for a neurostimulator for pain relief is 4 hours of psychiatric evaluation.

wellness exams depend on if you are a Part C participant in certain plans,
rather than a Supplement purchaser (F, G etc).

The intrusive questionnaires actually are not new-
they were introduced by certain insurance carriers in the 90's

They made there way into some emergency care systems in the 2000's
they have slowly crept into Medicaid
and now Medicare as the "insurance" carriers have moved into "Advantage Medicare" an other titled plans

My far right cousin had this conversation recently when I told him about my experience with the doctor on my annual "wellness" visit.

He said his doctor asked him how many guns he had. His answer was "none of your business". The doc just laughed. But, as I recall, my cousin didn't tell me why the doc asked. Maybe he didn't know why and didn't ask.

Anyway, the staff at my doc's office had me do some pictures and answer some questions - not about guns.

I thought it was strange.

I wondered should I cooperate in the future? What would happen if I didn't? I think it's invasive.

I decided I'm just telling the doc that it isn't required and I'm not doing it, they snuck the last one into a pre-surgery exam.

They do seem to sneak them in. I don't like it and don't trust what's going on.

The thing of asking about guns isn't new either. They also ask if you feel safe in your home, etc. I expect they are concerned that you might harm yourself or someone else via the guns or a family member might harm you or whatever. None of your business is the correct answer. I don't think that I was ever asked about guns tho.

No. I have not started the process, but I know that the psychiatric exam is part of it and for what reason I'm not sure as there is no explanation in the literature I got. I looked into it before L1-L5 surgery, but the pain doc said it would be considered only if surgery wasn't an option. Looking to be the same for S1-L5. My pain level now isn't bad enough to justify it. Looks like I still have severe stenosis at L4-L5. A friend who has one swears by it and says it's a Godsend.

My neurosurgeon wants me to get this device as well. They also said the same thing, had to check with a psych first which baffles me.

She showed me two devices. One is a temporary to see 'if it works' and the permanent version which was quite a bit larger. I wasn't excited about either especially with probes to be inserted into the spinal column.

I asked what they cost beyond my health care coverage. No one would tell me. After thinking about it for awhile while waiting for a return call on costs ("we need a few days and will get back to you") I decided this would not be a good move. I'd have to pay at least twice for surgery- first for the temporary to see if it works. Pay to remove it if it doesn't work or pay to have the jumbo version installed.

Didn't seem like a good thing to do. Probably why they never called me back with what my out-of-pocket costs were going to be.

I did find this.

https://www.spine-health.com/b...nal-cord-stimulation

I estimated they cost around $50K for everything. it is covered by Medicare. My friend said it took about a year to get one. My pain doc would do the first part which is taped on the outside, but a neurosurgeon would do the actual implant. Of course there are maintenance costs, battery replacement, etc. My friend's is from Boston Scientific.
