But the GOP in Iowa don't care. They know it's party over all else during an election.

The voters must want it, they elected that governor.

A poll taken before November 2016 showed Clinton beating Trump.

Whoops.

"In 2018, she shared that her daughters and her grandchildren were all educated in the public school system. She wrote, “We value education here in Iowa and that is a tribute to all our educators, young people, and parents.”

One of her daughters is a teacher.

Wymple,

You do realize that the vast majority of Americans are too stupid to vote and the only reason they can is because of the Democratic Party, which is clearly too stupid to run the country. Not sure you are smart enough to figure that out either.

There's always the argument that if the state is going to spend x dollars per student what difference does it make which school the student attends. I'm mostly indifferent to the matter, but lean to the side of if you want something special for your kid then you should bear some of the burden.

Have you compared public vs private/religious schools in places where each exist and have data to indicate that the students in private schools always/mostly/usually do better?

Private/religious schools are not handicapped & dragged down by disruptive poorly performing students who have crap for parents & lousy home lives. Public schools are tasked with that. If you are a problem child a private school just gives you the boot. All my children went thru Catholic schools except the oldest and the youngest, out of 7. Those 2 did as well as the other 5 who went to Catholic schools, which is to say extremely well. It starts at home & public schools cannot escape dealing with trash. Private schools don't have to, so of course they will have a better track record. If you are sending your kids to private schools with the costs involved, you are a more involved & demanding parent.
