I pulled a Saeed and only read the headline but that was enough to infer that the problem is that the mental institutions were shut during the Reagan era.

Does it sound to you as though this individual is sane and should be walking our streets?

Insane? Don't know. Suffering from some sort of me talk illness? I would venture to say so. What's the link you see with emptying mental hospitals? There is nothing to suggest this person came from such a place. I am curious what would lead an otherwise healthy looking young male to do this.

I’d agree it’s a result of shutting down mental institutions.

If this person is truly mentally Ill, then it sounds like a prescription for escalation, and a bad outcome.

If it’s “me” talk illness, that fruit rapidly disappears when there is an unpleasant consequence (like being placed in a long term mental health facility).

Unfortunately, there are not very many long term psych hospitals anymore, and most that still exist are related to dangerous behavior after the fact.

Or maybe given some high level Government job where he has access to suitcases. OK to be nutty as long as you aren't violent or predatory?

Real conservatives aren't radicalized. Thus "radicalized conservative" is an oxymoron. Yet there are many radicalized republicans.
