Trump is and always has been inarticulate and crude, but he is less stupid than he seems. I do believe he says half of the stuff he says just to see what the result may be.
I fully believe a goodly portion of his anti-Canada rhetoric was intended to create an atmosphere of conflict. I also believe this was done to benefit Mark Carney and at his request.
Given all of this, the insults, the aggressive language, the meddling in Canadian politics, Canadians have a right to be offended.
Now, when it comes to trade wars and tariffs, it is a whole different matter. I don't believe that taxing our own population in retaliation for Trump taxing his, is the thing to do. I don't believe that taxing Canadians for buying Chinese products is right either. Especially when everything which has been done over the last fifty years has almost guaranteed reliance on Chinese manufacturing and exports.
It makes sense to try and extricate ourselves from the morass which is largely of our own making. That means to decrease our reliance on the US and China and moving more toward self-sufficiency. In a sense, Trump really has done Canada a favor by making this point. Regards, Bill

When the tariff war between The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and canada started, I urged Medved to not hate me/us simply because of Trump. He insisted that there be a chasm, even though I told him I see canadians as brothers. All these statements would be very easy to search and verify.

I told him this spat, between our countries is temporary but his divisive words aren't.
