I don't know Del except for reading is posts here on AR. Del sent some photos to my email account sometime back, so he had my contact info. This morning I received this email from Del's email address:
The language makes me think that Delton's account has been hacked and some scammer is trying to turn a quick buck. I am wondering if any of you know Delton and might be able to contact him. Also, did anyone else receive a similar email? Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

You are correct. Thisis a hoax asking for money. I have seen it several times. Del needs to be made aware and run virus software. Jim

Yes it is a scam. Received the very same thing allegedly from a local attorney friend of mine supposedly stranded in the very same place, just a few months back.

the dead giveaway is the hotel part, even if the rest sounded good. You check in with a credit card, so there is no bill to pay.

Not always. As I don't like to use credit cards when I don't have to, I always carry at the very least $2,000 in cash when I travel. Then when I arrive at the hotel, I won't give them my credit card. At first they sometimes refuse to give me my room, but when I tell them I will give them a $1,500 or more cash deposit for my two or three night stay, they change their tunes. Even at hotels which charge $400 or more per night that has always worked for me..including a particularly snooty one in Denver. At that one the manager told me that they always require a credit card to check in as a matter of policy, and if I didn't give them a valid credit card they would not check me in. I told him it is MY policy not to stay at hotels which do not accept U.S. legal tender (or the cash of their own country ) and that if his hotel didn't want my money, there were lots of other hotels within a few block radius which would. He saw the light immediately. Why do I do that? I use credit cards as little as possible when I travel because of the epidemic of identity theft. Sure, someday someone may rob me, but what is the most they can get? A few thousand bucks and my watch.... My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
