Well, now we wait. It’s predicted to hit us about 8 tonite. When Hurricane Michael roared over us 6 years ago, it was a Cat 3. Helene is predicted to be a Cat 4 when overhead. We’re about 60 miles inland from landfall. We would have evacuated westward but our dog had major leg surgery (ACL repair)a week ago and couldn’t tolerate the car ride so here we stay. Michael was scary as hell, listening to big pines snap in half and huge oaks uprooting and crashing down. Sounded like an artillery barrage for about 6 hours but we escaped major damage to the house. Praying we will be lucky again….

Be safe and hope there isn't too much damage.

I saw a lot of cotton and peanut farmers were out all night harvesting.

My BIL is a peanut buyer/warehouse owner. They’ve been working around the clock for the last 3 days to get as much harvested as possible before things go to hell. We’ve gotten 4” of rain so far and the storm is still 350+ miles away…

Glad you're battened down.

Best of luck.

This damned thing is scary.

Latest forecast shows eye has shifted eastward for landfall as of 10 PM. This puts us on the clean side of the eye, hopefully sparing us of the worst winds. We’ve had 5” of rain so far but I’m not in a flood zone, so no worries. Fingers crossed but more hopeful than 2 hours ago.

We dodged a bullet. When the storm shifted eastward at the last minute, it saved us. Very little wind damage, no power loss, just 8+” of rain. Minimal clean up today. Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes. tu2
