Does anyone known of a storage facility for firearms in the us ?

Thanks

Interesting query. I never thought of that. We all keep independant safes. That might be a brilliant job op. for some new intrepeneur w/ deep pockets + very good security system. I know for a fact that the general storage units are making a fortune, this is a novel idea.

Better find a friend or relative to store them. Under Federal law, before you can retrieve them from a storage facility, you have to fill out a 4473 and pass the background check on every one of them.

What? How long has this been going on? Do you have a link?

You pack your guns in storage totes, rent a climate controlled storage unit. Pay the rent until you get back, go and get your guns. Be sure to check security, access in the facility, cctv, etc. No background check needed. If you store your guns with someone who is an FFL holder, then yes you will have to do a background on each firearm. Firearms stored with an FFL holder have to go in the bound book as an acquisition . When you pick them up, then it goes to the disposition side of the bound book. Just like when a dealer buys and sells firearms.

Law changed several years ago. Local chain of gunstores had a lucrative business storing guns for many years , feds changed the law, ended that part of the business. They stored guns for all kinds of customers, lots of them would check them in and out during hunting season, no more. Now, You would have to 4473 them everytime they went in and out. Too time consuming and expensive. Another case of the Gov't helping you out!

That is only for storing guns at an FFL.

Has nothing at all to do with storing guns at a rental storage facility.

I would see if a family member or trusted friend has room at their place for one or more gun safes, and just park them there, you keep the keys and combo's to yourself, the safes just sit there.

I can remember the process when I would put a gun in pawn for a period of time and then have to fill out the forms and pay the fees to get it out.

I was not sure that storing guns for another person fell under those same regulations, especially when it was being done as more or less a favor and in someones private storage facility.

The first two posts were about FIREARMS storage facilities and that is what the law applies to and what I was replying to. For me, there is no way I would store mine in a public storage no matter how many cameras they had, the most common method of theft in them is to rent one, and go into it, close the door and use a cordless drill and unscrew one wall after the next, cleaning out the good stuff on the way. Ask any storage facility owner, it happens all the time! The walls are just screwed on with self-tapping screws, plus, I'm pretty sure you will not find an insurer that would cover it. Best bet, like I said in my first post, find a trusted family member or friend that would let you put a safe in their house to store your guns, and if you have gun insurance, it will be covered.

I do not disagree with any of that, you are describing things as they really are.

True.Mores the pity. I built a steel encased room for a friend of mine years ago before he passed. It was totally secure. I will not elaborate as any thief could be reading.I will say however that the hidden key pad functions were protected by treble hooks.

When I built ( myself) my house, I poured a reinforced concrete room, complete with radiant heat and Vault door. I'm afraid, it's full with my own stuff or I would offer as I know how scary it would be to leave them behind.

Thanks

I am going to sell/trade/upgrade some of my handguns and ar to cut the number of guns.

I am also going to sell some guns on ar.

My higher end guns will go to my buddies.

I am also thinking of getting a place in Tucson so some guns may go there.

I need to get a gunsafe at my cousin place for class 3 stuff or I may just strips the sbr to the lower.

I checked out a couple of places in New Jersey and PA. Was too expensive for many guns. It’s like $15 a month for a gun.

It’s mainly aimed at New Jersey gun guys buying banned guns (ar) in pa and leaving them there.

I used up some room in my vault by putting in 2" blueboard insulation and then V groove pine for looks.
If I was to do it again, I would double the footprint and be more efficient in my lay-out of the racks.
I would then offer storage for free for folks like you, just to off-set crooks like $15 a gun per month! Geez, what a rip off.

Back in the 1980's there was a storage facility in Pan Handle Florida that had a high security section with steel reinforced climate controlled concrete cubicles, controlled with human and CCTV security. It can be done as it has been done! I believe it to be a significant business opportunity.

Houston would be a good town for a gun storage facility.

Population density, population size, multi family housing density, gun ownership
