This started life as a super black hawk Here's the invoice to show the work done. A truly fine piece. 5 inch BBL, free pawl, etc. Using 22g of 2400 behind a keith 250g linotype gives me 1250 MV and delivers a clover leaf pattern in the bull at 50 yards. I highly recommend this gunsmith's work.
That gun has a fine history, but I started life (my magnum pistol life) with a Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Mag. The effeminate(?) size of the standard grip spoke to me before my first mule deer hunt. I was 17, and I was sighting-in the pistol by supporting my hands on a tree stump. I wore a blood-blister for a number of weeks after the bottom of that pistol grip sat-down on the lower palm of my hand. NO THANK YOU! I sold it quickly and bought a Smith & Wesson, Model 57, and never looked back.

Bill, thanks,+ would'nt he just.P dog,I like S/S revolvers + have a few but I have always felt that a deep blue went better with ivory stocks. Just personal preference. Why they make Fords + Chevys I suppose.
Bill,I contacted Turnbull a year or so back to see if they could do a restoration on my S+W 2nd model HE. in 45 LC.Still has the hash marks from the WW2 lend lease program. (One that actually came back home). They told me they did not work on Smiths.I do like a color case hard finish like I have on my pair of Great Western (consec, ser.# set that I had ivory stocks fitted)but I just really liked the beep blue against the ivory on this one.I know it's a Ruger + not a Colt but I tried to keep as true to what Elmer had in mind,+ she certainly is a performer.
Interesting item that I did not post before. He has/had his ivory work done by the Amish as somehow they are not restricted by federal law to work in ivory.Don't know any details on that but thought it interesting. Nice work though. It's not JUST apperance,it feels so different in your hand.I always considered it the top of the line way to go in stocks.
Nice piece. I had David build me a Ruger Bisley 45 Colt many years ago. Here is my #5 that I ordered from Bill Grover after touring his shop in 1994. This a 44 Magnum.

True. A photo that could belong in House Beautiful but most likely won't.I have for years had the complaint that the gun shows were filling up with jams + jellies,T shirts, etc. But heaven forbid we ever took a gun into a SAAMI show.
I reposted this as another member on a different forum wanted to see pics.I can't find him now. If anyone knows please forward the reposting info to him.Thanks.
That's a beauty all right, I am glad you got it done. Years ago I did my due diligence , called Clements and agreed on work to be done. A year and two progress calls later, I was told by his father that he hadn't started my project and didn't know when he would. I told him to box it up and send it back which he promptly did. Great work but poor customer service IMO.--Cam

Honestly through if you use the big Hogue rubber over grip, and replace the original wood ones that is about the best a guy can get. Ugly but beautiful in the hands.
