Good video Ken. Now the age old question, can there be colonisation on Mars? What is the rainfall,if any? What is the oxygen levels,if any? What is the ag.possabillities?Really. even the Brits when we were only colonies knew that they could not support a dominion so far away. Hell, every thing I saw looks like Afghanistan + they have survived for eons, thus my query.

Big question is, why colonize Mars ? Some leading scientist think we'd be better expending our research money on the moon, for the simple reason it's a lot closer and more accessible. Lot to be learned there about Ma Earth we don't know.

the moon is made up of mostly glass.
Mars has dirt and water.
neither have an atmosphere.

the thing is we need to be moving out somewhere, the further the better for a first jump.
it will give us a lot more information about how to make the much, much longer journey the second one will be.

If we can find an aquifer, imagine the opportunities for golf courses.

no atmosphere and lower gravity would also lead to some serious long range shooting.

How about just surviving? There is a lot of mis or rather lack of information about Mars. The main problem is that neither Mars nor the space craft have a magnetic field to protect humans from the charged particles emanating from the sun. These are stopped by the earth's magnetic field giving rise to the auroras Borealis and Australis. Although we don't know for sure, the conventional wisdom is that anyone going for 8 months out, 8 months back, plus any time spent on Mars will be dead when they get back, if not, shortly thereafter. Yet, I see no mention of this. That is exactly why Mars One is proposing a one way trip!
Lot to talk about on this topic. I rather like the Mars One idea!

Are you guys bad-mouthing golfers? I take that personally.

I was hoping to see feral hogs trotting across those hills. I'm sure if we colonize Mars, the hogs won't be far behind.

Bill + Ken,if you have never read P.G. Wodehouse's "History of Gwalf" I recommend it. A real scream,+ dealing with the Scotsmen as only an Englishman can.
