Just for shits and giggles, I wonder who all here would dare to eat watermelon before June 19th.

Don't know how many here have grown or rustled melons, but....... some of the stories I could tell.

Georgia rattlesnake,

Charleston Grey

Black Diamond

Yellow meat melons

Sugar Baby.

won't be long now, you can enjoy them in good conscience. jumping

It's obvious you aren't from Texas. Wink

Juneteenth, shortened from 6-19 is the day in 1865 that Federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced to one and all that the slaves were no longer slaves. It has been celebrated every year in Texas since then by the ex-slaves initially and their various and numerous descendants since. It was a big deal for about 50 years, wasn't so important for another 50 years, and has been growing in popularity for the last 50. Offhand, I can't recall the location but one of the barbecue books I read mentioned a 10 (?) acre tract of land purchased in Texas specifically for Juneteenth celebrations. At the bigger celebrations there is usually a speech or two, and typically BBQ, get togethers, music, dancing, and possibly some hanky-panky. The holiday is a state holiday in quite a few states and is celebrated nation wide these days.
I usually don't attend and I understand that white sheets are not recommended attire. (That's a joke, son) Wink

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.
