....like the old saying goes, in this family, I'm a mushroom. Kept in the dark and covered in bull shit, luckily I'm still able to pay the bills.

We attended my daughter Anne's graduation in Bio medical engineering from Univ Tx Austin Friday, June 18 which was brutal for me as gout had settled into my knee and made mobility difficult. Even tho they only come once a year, the parking and location of the ceremonies, in this case, the basket ball gymanasium, made the whole process into a Chinese Fire Drill. You'd think UT could come up with a better plan than the nothing that they have in place now. At any rate, proud parents and family watched her get her diploma. That was Friday.

She came home Sat. and, Sunday morning mentioned she was going back to Austin. "What for?", I asked. "I'm flying to Peru tomorrow. I told you but I didn't think you heard me." I damn sure didn't since I can't hear thunder most days these days. I wasn't happy but it's her choices. Too late for daddy to do much about it, especially since she was using her money.

She has been in Peru, mostly trekking to Machu Picchu for the last week or so. And made it there today. She should be home Friday and is going to work at a company in Madison Wis next month. I am very proud of her, even if she does keep covering me in BS and, if they weren't all white already would be giving me gray hairs.

Go mushrooms!!!

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

Well I think congratulations are in order, both to you and to her. Now the real learning begins!

I appreciate the congratulations but I'm too old and too set in my ways to learn.

Don't feel alone. Wifezilla, the daughters and even the grand daughter all keep me in the dark.

Thanks Randy. It thrills me to figure that at her starting yearly salary, SHE will earn back the money WE spent on her degree in about 8 1/2 years. But hell, that's what parents do, isn't it?

Congratulations to both of you. beer

I try not to do the math on cost of education versus salary. I don't know if the break-even point actually exists for some of my kids.

Damn, that’s a hell of a signing bonus. It says a lot about big pharma.

Congrats to all of you with smart kids. I don’t think I have any, but I’m always nervous checking my mailbox.

Gato, I can’t hear anything and will start a new thread about hearing protection.

I am still hopeful that Gato will adopt me and send me back to college. I made a mess of it the first time.

Sorry, experience has taught me that I'm far better off with smart kids.

Yours must have gotten their smarts from their mother then! sofa

When my wife was pregnant, and we found it was going to be a girl, my friend Walter said:

"Bloody hell! Let us hope she does not come out looking like her father, and has her mother's brains!"

My wife is a blonde from Sweden! clap

Congratulations!

You try and nurture independent thinking and then they go off and do what they want!

Madison is a great town and there is a lot of outdoor activities all over Wisconsin. Growing up in northern Illinois I was a FIB. But, I still spent a lot of time in Wisconsin. Once IL raised the drinking age to 21 WI was still 18.
