We don't know the half of it yet. Over 10,000 reported killed in ONE city on Leyte. and here are hundreds of towns and cities (even hundreds of Islands in the Philippines) where there is no communication working yet, let alone any assistance available now. A damned shame. those folk fought on our side all during WW II, while invaded and occupied by the Japanese. One of my old friends from the 25th Infantry Division in which we both served later, Sgt. Bermudez, was a Sergeant in the guerilla Philippine Scouts which fought the Japanese from 1941 through 1945. He was from Luzon Island. Anyway, though bone poor as a country, Filipinos are really hard workers, very polite, and all-around good reliable people unless you cross them...then look out! Truly honorable men. | |||
