And when a company’s CEO acts like a spoiled child, it’s difficult to have any optimism on the company’s long term future.

15 years in business, never turned a profit, and the most shorted stock on Wallstreet. I think it will take more than hope or even prayer. A miracle maybe?

Only question is why the powers that be, tolerate and continue to support Musk ?

Well, "the powers that be" just drove up the stock price $28 (just over 9%) in after hours trading. Obviously they don't talk to the experts at AR.
Again, we will just have to wait and see.

No, obviously they ignore hard, cold facts. Promises made, promises broken, money burned, no return other than stock price increase. 1000 people drank the Koolaid in Jonestown and look what happened. The “bigger fool” idea that keeps Ponzi schemes alive and well lives on. Last man out , please turn out the lights in the big tent in Fremont.

My first boss (a Russian Israeli) on Wall Street told me a good line “more jews were killed averaging down (stocks) than by hitler.” The one liner was don’t be stubborn, don’t buy loser cheaper and cut your losses.

The shorts in Tesla have been wrong since the stock was at $30. Eventually they may be right but there may be plenty of margin calls along the way.

I was short 225 gsat calls between summer 2013 and fall 2014. I collected quarterly premium and had to roll it once. I made money for a position I was totally wrong in. Sometimes idiots like me do get lucky. It was a 100 contracts.

My advice is hate Elon all you want but don’t short a cult stock.

Cult stocks eventually collapse. Just don’t be the last investor out of the house of cards. I prefer to invest in a company rather than speculate in a company’s stock. I believe in Warren Buffet’s Philosophy- invest with a long term view. If a company is still a long way from turning a profit after 15 years in business and a climbing share price, it’s a Ponzi scheme. Caveat Emptor....

Amazon kind of changed the landscape and that has caused a lot of people to give tesla the benefit of the doubt.

Tesla is a disruptive company - it may or may not make money at end of the day.

But the electric car and solar power and battery storage is impacting vast swaths of the global economy from autos to energy to untities.

Sounds like his offer to send his mini submarine into the cavern in Thailand to rescue the soccer team. He is PT Barnum reincarnated. Disruptive doesn’t equal successful. At the end of the day, any company must eventually make a profit to survive. Musk simply has no track record of long term success.

Elon smacked the shorts hard. $420 takeout would force shorts to close positions.

He claims to have financing - could be Chinese tech, Saudi, ADIA, Japanese.

This is crazy but he could wrap up equity financing as he still has massive capital needs.

Interesting that there are no comments from the resident anti Musk crowd. Perhaps they are trying to figure out how much money they are going to lose with their short positions, assuming of course, that they have the balls to put their money where their mouth is! Musk is a rather loose cannon, but I do like his active stance against the antis, and the short sellers. Having said that, his position that emphasis on quarterly earnings is not the way to evaluate Tesla, is an interesting one.
Peter.

Of course he de-emphasizes quarterly earnings as yardstick- he has never had any! As to shorts, the only ones I have I wear daily. I buy a stock that I believe in and keep it long term. My pension fund has been fully invested in 1 stock for the last 18 years ( Apple) and it has done quite nicely. And they actually make money and pay dividends....

While I am not anti-Musk for any personal reasons, I did hit my target at $360 in June so I am happy to be out.

Will be interesting to see if he can stay out of the SEC crosshairs and in the good graces of the Board.

In regards to the financial future of the company, I believe they will continue to struggle with Musk at the controls. No matter what happens to the company, I sure wouldn't want to be a Tesla customer. But the good news is, if you're into the EV lifestyle, there are lots of new choices coming to market soon.

That is certainly true! It will be very interesting to see how well they compete against Tesla. Of course, there will always be the tariffs to blame if they don't!

Well, it shouldn’t be to too hard to compete since Tesla’s hasn’t produced much. Lots of promises though. Any day now I am sure he will ramp up production. After all he has the big tent going round the clock. rotflmo

Looks like Musk will have some splaining to do to both the SEC and investors - https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/1...f-going-private.html

I agree, but, according to the commentaries, this type of suit is not uncommon from folks that might lose money!

"IF" Musk made a public announcement that he has a financing source to take the company private at $420 a share but doesn't have a real financing source, then he has a lot more to worry about from the SEC than he does his investors. So far, there is no apparent financing source and the Board is in the dark...

And now the competition comes screaming in - https://www.newsmax.com/newsfr...018/08/12/id/876665/

SEC is definitely investigating and Musk is his own worst enemy. His NY Times interview is a good example- his stock price paid dearly for it.
