from NY Times article:

quote:
But over the past five decades, Medicaid has surpassed Medicare in the number of Americans it covers. It has grown gradually into a behemoth that provides for the medical needs of one in five Americans — 74 million people — starting for many in the womb, and for others, ending only when they go to their graves.”
Some remarkable figures: “In 2015, the nation spent more than $532 billion on Medicaid, of which about 63 percent was federal money and the rest from the states. … Medicaid now provides medical care to four out of 10 American children. It covers the costs of nearly half of all births in the United States. It pays for the care for two-thirds of people in nursing homes. And it provides for 10 million children and adults with physical or mental disabilities. For states, it accounts for 60 percent of federal funding — meaning that cuts hurt not only poor and middle-class families caring for their children with autism or dying parents, but also bond ratings.”

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

The political "untouchables", Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. 127 Trillion dollar unfunded laibility that will come due in the next couple decades.

The last number I read was 1.1 million dollars per taxpayer. Ponzi schemes and Socialism for the win...NOT.

I read the article Gato.....what percentage of those "50% of births paid for by medicaid" result in contributory citizens vs. % that will be reliant on virtually 100% gov't assistance?

If we keep paying for free childbirth for those that can't even afford to pay for themselves what is going to happen as the US population nears 500 million as predicted? Will those additional 200 million be highly contributory citizens?

I think we've seen the best of times....and while they'll still be good for awhile I think at some point it has to collapse.

Just like when the Dems rammed Obamacare thru, they were smart enough to know that when you make something free for millions of people, that it is extremely difficult to take it away. That's why the Reps caved on repealing Obamacare. The hypocritical bastards, when they knew the vote didn't mean anything (pre-Trump) they all fell in line like trained pigs saying, "Repeal, Repeal!", but when the rubber met the pussy, they wilted, a severe case of ED. Certainly the repeal bill had many problems, but it was likely the last chance until the costs of FREE overwhelm the income to pay for it. Already, Republican states are falling into the "Me too, me too!" trap and expanding their medicaid. Medical costs will eventually destroy the whole delicate balancing act.

This is exactly what you get when a society demands cheap prices on everything so they send all of the jobs making things to other countries. Sure, you can buy a fancy TV set for a thousand bucks instead of 3 or 4 thousand, but you lose the lifetime contributions to social programs of millions of people who might otherwise be working here.

Medicaid isn't a republican problem or a democrat problem or a government problem. Medicaid is a problem created by people.

The child birth will happen weather you pay for it or not, hence, why I never understand the resistance to tax payer subsidized birth control.
