One of my favourite fiction characters is Jack Reacher.

He is an ex-MP, and a very big guy.

Who do the nitwits in Hollywood pick to play him?

None other than that little idiot Tom Cruise!

It'll never be the same. From this day forward Jack Reacher will be that little twit in your mind. Smiler

They just have to use a 1.5x lense! Problems solved, except for the attitude!

Yep I'm on book 16 I believe.

What do you mean Tom Cruise isn't 6'5" 250#.

As I understand Tom bought the movie rights to the book so he can cast anyone he wants. Which just happened to be himself.

My stepson and I saw it yesterday then spent the whole way home listing who would have been better in the role.

As usual just my $.02

They would have done a lot better if they had used Tom Selleck.

Yeah you could put Tom Selleck in anything + I would watch it.After Quigley he can do no wrong.Another choice would have been Jason Stratham (sp?)of the transporter films, etc. but NOT tiny tom.

I agree, but I saw an interview that said the author was the one that wanted Cruise... Go figger.

A terrible casting decision, probably made by someone who never read any of the books. I suppose he's 20 years too old now, but somebody with a build similar to Fred Dryer would have been good.

let's see, Reacher is 6'4" (or thereabouts) and 240# so they pick a dwarf to play him. I guess that's one movie I won't mind missing.

It's true. Tom went wierd on us years ago.

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.

I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

Shooter was a mangled version of Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter.
After reading Point of Imapact and a few of the other Swagger books I was able to get a mental picture of the characters and events.
Parts of the story were changed, the casting for some of the characters was way off, and some character descriptions were changed.

It wasn't a bad movie and I know it's not feasable to take such a lengthy book and try to include all the details in a film but at least they could have stayed more true the to book.

Somewhere in my Highschool yearbook is a picture of me at age 17 standing in line in the cafeteria... In line in front of me clearly visible is Tom Mapother (who you refer to by his stage name)
at age 16.

The top of Tom's head does not block the view of the fact that there is a pen leaking in my shirt pocket....

This photo was taken sometime in the fall of 1978

Wanna see a short little shit? look at pictures of Sly Stallone...

Tom Selleck would be good; Sam Elliot even better.

I finally saw the film and found that Cruise did a good job of acting. Nothing he can do about his size, but the movie wasn't bad at all. The director (who wrote the screenplay for Usual Suspects and previously directed The Way of the Gun) does a better job than most Hollywood directors for this kind of action film.
