Gents - my wife and I will be visiting SC during october. Will be based in Charleston but will be mobile.

Does anyone know what gun shows are on during October - not necessarily big shows but the smaller , local ones. Would be nice to attend at least one show if possible and meet some regular shooters.

And from a purely mercenary point of view - anyone want to adopt an aging pair of New Zealanders and take them squirrel or other crittur hunting ? We can offer you a few laughs and some cross-cultural repartee in return , and we are both reasonably house trained ;-)

Thanks in advance

Only one in October but three in November. Largest inventory gunshop in eastern US about three hours north of Charleston in Wagram, NC. Midsouth Guns. Huge number of SxS's, used drillings, Savage 99's, and other collectibles. While you are there you can visit the US Army Golden Knights parachute team training center at nearby Maxton Airport. They jump from 8 am to 12 noon. Maxton Airbase during WW2 was a training center for Normandy glider pilots. There is a pictorial history book of that time at the FBO office at the airport. Worth a look if you like history. The USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial is two hrs from there in Wilmington NC. Wilmington is a historic walking city like Charleston and would be a great overnight B&B stay.

Just another way that we meet new friends. I am in Texas but I would have extended you the same courtesy.Free of course. I have a friend that has a large house downtown + supplements her income by renting rooms during ACL + SXSW,etc. festivals;so now the city of Austin is not happy enough with the huge property taxes imposed but now they want an additional (in her case) hotel tax. Muzza, hope you enjoy your stay!

We have visited the US several times before and seen other areas . Last time - 4 years ago - we based in SC again , with friends , and visited Florida , then flew to Boston , New York , South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore etc , home via Las Vegas. We dont have a teenaged son in tow this time so hopefully we can be a little more liesurely. Leaving via Denver , where we will meet up with my sister and her family who live in Alberta so its a friends and family trip all round

Trying not to have so many flights this time , although we are coming in from Argentina to Miami to Charleston. The SC part of the trip is the unwind , blob out part .

If you have the time, and like to walk, go see Brookgreen gardens and Congeree national park. The wife and I spent 2 days at Brookgreen and a day at Congeree, and I still didn't see enough.
