I've been really impressed with Safeco. They aren't my insurance company, but they are the insurance company for the ignorant driver that was trying to put his shirt on while he was driving, drifted into my lane and whacked me after I came to a complete stop because I had no where to go, unless I drove into a parked car, jumped a curb and drove into someone's front yard, or threw it in reverse and tried to out-run him. They took full responsibility and repaired my car. Then nearly six months later my daughter found more inside damage to a driver-side rear door that I missed, and the Ford Collision Center missed. I explained the situation to Safeco, and they immediately jumped on it. They called today and said thy are sending me a check for another $800 to get it fixed. I like dealing with people like that. My cars and houses are insured by Farmer's for the most part. They've been good the past ten years. I thought they stiffed me on some house hail damage years ago so I cancelled about 50% of my business with them. They got the message. The only car insurance company I will never work with is Aetna. They screwed me big-time in 1971. That was the last time they ever got the chance to do business with me. Whenever I get an inquiry from them, I tell them how they shafted me, and they understand why they won't get a second opportunity.

Go to your state department of insurance. Kensco, that would be the Texas Department of Insurance website. You can find out which insurers have been fined, how many complaints have been filed, etc. Now complaints are pretty meaningless. Noone likes insurance companies and everyone complains. The meaningful stat is "justifiable complaints".
