Why do western boots all have leather soles, but dress shoes all have rubber soles?

What are you buying? Almost all of my cowboy boots are leather. I have a few rubber soles, but they are for walking in the rain we’ve been getting lately. Thank goodness. I’ve got dress shoes with leather soles, but I haven’t worn them in 10+ Years. I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills. Marcus Cady DRSS

My ten year old dress shoes have leather soles too, but no more. Everything bought in the last ten years are rubber. Maybe cheaper, more durable. All my western boots have leather soles. I've never seen rubber. (I have seen golf spikes on western boots, but way back when.) I still don't understand why western boots don't have rubber soles, if they are more durable. (I guess the same reason saddles aren't made out of rubber; just because.)

Whether used for such or not, they are designed to slide in and out of a saddle stirrup. Rubber soles would be more difficult. There's also the angle of western dancing, such as the Two Step where sliding is required. Rubber boots will not work for that either.

I wear western boots all the time just because I have all my life when the choice was mine. the ones that I wear at work are rubber as one does NOT want to slip in a sheet metal shop. For dancing, the leather of course as was mentioned in the 2 step, sliding is mandatory. I'm still more comfortable in a riding heel even when just walking. A habit I guess. Todd, you hit the nail on the head in one regard. Dancing in rubber soled footwear is a bummer. You might as well be wearing concrete.

Another "Why". Why do we build street-legal cars that can drive 200 MPH, and zero to 60 in about 3 seconds when that is almost three times the speed that we can legally drive?

And why do we allow laws to stay on the books that protect us from ourselves? I.E. seatbelts + motorcycle helmets. I fully agree to anyone under 18 but after that, if you kill yourself it's your own damn fault + none of the state's business. I will admit 5that they have lightened up on the helmet laws. A better question is Why does it matter to you that I own a car fitting your description above? To answer your question directly, see this website below. This place is 15 miles from my house and I drive my car there on occasion. https://www.motorsportranch.com/

MSR in Cresson is perfect. I have relegated myself to old and slow trucks. In my younger days, I would still floor it if a certain song came on the radio. I pushed a 3/4 Ton suburban with a 454 at over 100 while one of those songs hit. This was on 180. Stupid, and I’m sure it was like 5mpg.... I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills. Ken, that song was written by a guy (pseudo) named Mars Bonfire( really, check the credits) about his new Corvair.(remember those? kinda? shudder!) John Kay made a REAL hit out of it! In all honesty, after East Rider, all anyone could envisioualize was an H.D. chopper. Never mistake motion for action.

I know about 20 + years ago you had to try your luck at radio shack to MAYBE find a needle for your stylus arm. A few years ago I bought my youngest son a rather novel (I thought) turntable that had the function of burning that album onto a C.D. Never mistake motion for action.

Rubber non slip soles have their place in the work-place. But those damn trail/hiking boots with the knobby Air-Bob soles will get you killed in the saddle. Phil

Amen! I landed on my ass trying to dismount in Alaska a few years back. Thank God my mount stood patiently waiting for me to get upright again. I'm amazed I didn't tear up my knee or ankle.

Why do we still make watches when everyone in the world has a smart phone that tells you the time of day immediately.....and also the weather, and every other damn thing. Watches are about as useful as a buggy whip.

Well, I still wear my watch + moved up to a fax machine several years ago. Before that, it was a big chief tablet. Hell, I was dragged kicking + screaming into the 20th century, now I'm having to deal with the 21st. Never mistake motion for action.

I love watches and feel naked not wearing one. When asked the time or just needing to know myself, it’s still natural for me to raise and look at my wrist, even if not wearing a watch at the time. Why are we still carrying around pennies? You wouldn't even pick one up off the street. It's questionable whether I would pick up a nickel. Well maybe, if I was already down there tying my shoes or something. Let's get rid of pennies.

There is a sandwich shop that has been “penniless” for at least a decade now. Basically, they round up or down to the next $.05. I still carry around a few as I walk by a couple of fountains everyday and still believe in the old “make a wish deal. To be honest, many places also seem shocked when I pay cash. I remember in 1973 there was a penny shortage + all the local businesses gave change back only in their favor. The guy that I worked for had an in on info early + went to the bank + bought a couple of $100.00 bags of pennies. I figured if he had his ear to the keyhole then I would buy a sack myself. Turns out a week later the local businesses were buying pennies at 3 cents to a penny because they were moving them at 5 cents each. It didn't last long but that was a windfall. Oh + BTW, about picking up pennies from the ground; remember that a penny face-up is good luck + a penny face down is not. I have made a habit that if I see one face-up I will leave it for the next guy + if it is upside down I will flip it over for the same reason. Never mistake motion for action.

Then start one for me too. I still pick up pennies and other change all of the time. It's come in handy on more than one occasion, and if any of my grandkids are with me, they are on high alert for change laying around. And, I also wear a watch-either my Garmin Fenix 5(connects to my i-phone) or my Rolex-whichever the occasion. . . . I once had a very nice (brand new) watch that I wasn't wearing. I gave it to our youngest son, who promptly returned it and said: "Who wears a watch today when you have an i-phone!?" Oh, well. . . I tried.

OK, OK, I own nine watches and wear one every day......but, I do NOT pick up pennies. I may nudge them to be sure they aren't a nickel or a dime, but I do NOT pick them up.

Yeah, so do I. A Timex because I'm cheap + they work just fine. I do have a pocket watch that was my grandfather's that I never wear but it still has the fob on it from Indian motorcycles that they gave out as a promo with the 1919 Indian Cheif motorcycles. Never mistake motion for action.
