I ended up buying an Airstream travel trailer a few months back and am looking for a generator to use with it when camping away from hook-ups.

Thinking about this one:

Yamaha EF4500iSE, 4000 Running Watts/4500 Starting Watts, Gas Powered Portable Inverter http://amzn.to/1VtuWaJ

Anyone got any other suggestions or comments?

I've got the Honda E2000i. Easily portable, quiet and efficient. Actually have 2 of them that I can run in tandem if I need the AC unit. One of them will run the lights, microwave, etc.

I do exactly the same. Run both if powering everything including AC. Run one if AC isn’t in use. I can pick up a unit in each hand and carry them where wanted. The 4000 watt units aren’t as portable.

But...the bigger ones are less stealable though. And, less maintenance as well as not having to have a series coupler. I will likely just leave it in my truck anyway.

All true, but the two Hondas give a lot more flexibility about having electricity practically anywhere.

Everybody I know with one of the quiet Hondas uses it a lot more than they planned when they bought it.

And they'll fit in a large locking toolbox.

In CA where I had/used them, you didn’t leave ANYTHING in the truck bed unles it was welded in place or secured with a logging chain and huge padlock. jumping

OK guys...y’all have convinced me. I am thinking 2 2000 watt Hondas or Yamahas. Where do you get the series harness and all that stuff?

Honda has a Companion model EU2200i with a 30 amp outlet intended for use with a standard EU2200i, probably your best bet, any dealer selling you one of each should throw in any cables you need.

Lane,
You can get them online, Fleabay sells them. Cheapest price I've found on the Honda's is Sam's club.

Thanks fellows. I believe y'all have given me good advice.

Our local John Deere dealer is our local Honda Generator dealer as well.

Especially thanks to you Jeff for informing me on that companion model...did not know it existed.

I have the Honda 2000i twin pack setup and really like them. They are very compatible with electronics, as some of the cheaper ones aren't. I wouldn't trade them for any other camper generator unless it was a built in.

I'm rarely able to help anybody here so when I can I consider it partial repayment for all I've learned.

Dr. Easter,
I work on generators for a living, from portables to the diesel gen sets at hospitals and everything in between. The guys here have given you some great advice, the Hondas are quiet and rock solid. Change your oil every year or more depending on usage and your good to go. We very rarely see Hondas in our shop, unless they have been abused.

Thank you sir. I appreciate you taking the time to solidify the advice.

John,
Just for my own edification...what do you think of Yamaha generators? Some say they are even better than Hondas.
