A friend just showed me an application he has on his phone. It's called HUNTSTAND.
It is free and he told me that as an avid hunter that spends over 100 days in the woods each year, he needed a good App that would provide the same location info as a GPS but also allow more than that. He said he spent 2 years searching for a good App, and finally came across the HUNTSTAND app. You can download the app to your smart phone, provide your email address and begin using the app. Note: He said he rarely gets any email from them.
The app will pop an advertisement, but they are just "Xed Out" when they appear. You can pay $6 per year to avoid the ads but my friend said it wasn't necessary.
I downloaded to my phone and was able to find boundary lines for my place and save as my hunting location. When at my place, the GPS in my phone shows where I am on my property with a blue dot.
