You're not kidding! They are all Hondas now, aren't they? There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Unless you actually have heard this in person at Indy, etc., you simply cannot fully appreciate it.

Except for dirt track speedway, Sprint Cars and so on, as well as drag races, about all car racing now is an economy and tyre saving run.

If we live long enough I guess they will be racing only electric cars. Hard to get into that. I'm not sure they will generate the same heart-pounding, adrenaline rush.

they already do race electric cars. it's called formula-E. the hybrid division is called Formula-1. yep Formula-1 [you know Lemans, Nurnberg Ring,, Lewis Hamilton, Nikki Lauda, Formula-1] their engines only make like 180 horsepower, the 200 mph speeds come from the hybrid electric system.

I think the engines are about 650 HP and the electric motor about 150 HP and for about 25 seconds per lap. The endurance sports (Le Mans type and outright class) are about 600 HP and the electric motors 300 HP bot only for about 10 seconds a lap. Leaving drag racing aside and only including HP available for the full lap Sprint Cars might be the highest with 900 HP plus with World of Outlaws and NASCAR at about 850 HP next. On a power to weight ratio to beat a Sprint Car you would need to go to the drag racing. I think Indy cars are limited to 550 HP on the big ovals and 700 HP on the road tracks.
