This lovely fräulein is carrying 10 liter steins of bier. I just weighed a simple ceramic half-liter stein filled to the line with water and it weighed just over 41 ounces. So if we estimate each of those glass liter steins weighs a conservative 80 ounces, she is carrying 800 ounces, or 50 pounds of glass and bier. These gals do this all day at the Oktoberfest in Munich, where Reuters photographer Angelika Warmuth took this photo. I'm impressed! One reason you don't mess with German women. When the horse has been eliminated, human life may be extended an average of five or more years. James R. Doolitle I think they've been misunderstood. Timothy Tredwell

I was on a motorcycle trip through Europe a while ago. We stopped at a beer hall where I had one piece of chicken and a pretzel. Oh yes, and a stein full of good, stout beer. I accidentally bumped into one of the serving wenches. It was the equivalent of hitting a cast iron bridge abutment. Stout lady, I say. Stout, damn stout!
